Current State Of X4?
Hey guys, hopefully some of you can help me out. I have some questions regarding where X4 is at now :)

Background: I last played X4 just before the release of the Boron expansion (which I bought but haven't seen yet), so it's been a couple of years. I took a break to go play Cyberpunk and some other stuff (THAT SHALL NOT BE MENTIONED but was disappointing, so you can probably guess). Anyhow, I'm seeing entries on my news feed about the new X4 update (flight mechanics?), and am thinking I need to scratch the space empire itch again soon.

Questions: I'm wondering what changed in the last couple of years? Don't need anything too specific; simply looking for a rough overview.

I saw the Timelines DLC (which I didn't get, because not really interested in abstract scenarios) - does this affect the main X4 game at all? Are there achievements for it?

So yeah, any info gratefully appreciated. Even if it's just your general opinion of how the feel of X4 changed (or not) over the last couple of years, based on absolutely no facts whatsoever, lol.

Note: I don't need anyone to sell X4 to me. I already like this game a lot, and will put plenty more hours into it regardless of what anyone else thinks. I'm very far from done with X4. What I'm after is merely a quick overview of any changes from fellow fans of the game, before I delve back in. Because I'm curious what the devs have been up to.

...

Borons have very cool looking ships which have equipment incompatible with every other faction. They are often content with sitting in their sectors, however.

Timelines is generally not very liked. It adds some ships from older games, allows you to experience some of the moment from the past games as well. It does affect sandbox, there are tons of achievements, but a lot of people see clearing missions as a hassle.

At the moment version 7.5 is in beta test stage (beta 4, I think?). There will be changes in flight model, some new stations, and more sectors. They're also in processes of implementing a proper radar.

They also added "E" variants of some ships, which are more detailed than original versions. For example, Paranid shisp no longer look like plastic hair dryers, there's Behemoth E, etc. There are now some Xenon ships which can be captured. And some faction specific interiors for representatives.

On other hand, fleet AI is the same as it always has been.

Generally if you enjoyed the game before, it makes sense to grab community of planet on discount, then wait till 7.5 goes live.

Yes.

Timelines is a separate location that's available from main menu and is not tied from specific save. It has its storyline and set of missions. Some missions unlock certain things, like a derelict ship. The stuff you unlock will appear in all your future sandbox games. To unlock everything you need to finish that storyline. Then you'll also have a quest, that properly concludes it, now in the sandbox.

Basically, difficulty of missions is uneven, there are several people often get stuck on, and to keep advancing to next mission tier you need certain summary number of "stars", i.e. max ratings you ever earned for current tier. It isn't high, but sometimes people can't reach the requirement.

I'd rather have AI that was better at pretending to be a player.
The damn thing still stutters, frames crawling along in double digits. A testament, no doubt, to the German tendency to cling to antiquated systems.

Is the graphical glitch still occurring on beta 4?

Timelines made me join a suicide cult IRL
