For selling satellites I recommend to set it to closed loop construction method. Closed loop recipes for some reason manufacture things for fraction of their normal cost.
So in both cases the price is roughly similar. Universal might even be a bit cheaper. And in both cases the materials are much cheaper than wgat you get for selling the satellites, so it is viable. But a bit tedious since you can't just queue up or otherwise automate the upgrades like you can with normal trading
Being cheaper to build and operate, maintenance bays are useful for building near the front lines of a conflict for you and your allies to stay repaired and restocked while keeping your larger and more expensive shipyards in safer sectors further away.
