Geometric Owl - Can you build this?
Is there a faction that lets you build / order the Geometric Owl that you get on the Terran storyline for the (cursed) Torus puzzle mission? I couldn't see it on the blueprints I can buy from the Terrans.

Follow the terran plot and befriend the Yaki…

Its a Moreya, you can buy the BP from the Yaki if you are their friend. Like fNarkos said, follow the terran plotline and you'll get a chance to become the Yaki's friend.

Its an awesome ship.

Their medium, the Kuraokami, is probably even better. Do it! Its a fun and imho not too long storyline. The one where you start as cadet for the militia.

Yep the Kuraokami is quite possibly the best ship in the game? Personally I love the Katana and Dragon, but I always make sure to be friends with the Yaki and get those blueprints. It's probably one of the best things you can do in the game because you can fill a carrier with the Moreya and Kuraokami, give them all thermals and nothing that flies will beat them. Not on its own. Even several K's and an I are no match. They are very quick, decent shields and lots of guns.

The Geo owl is probably my favourite ship. I have her in internal storage guarded by a station that is bristling with turrets and that is guarded by an enormous fleet which is led by my flagship HMS Apocalypse which is a carrier and that is full of Moreyas and Kuraokamis. :)

Kuraokami is a hard ship to get, the Yaki Pilots refuse to give up their vessels all the time. probably a really high morale count.

The Moreya is a good fighter as well as far as scout ships with firepower is concerned, but considering the Segaris plot quickly following on from the HQ plot. Getting a Moreya at least is a guarantee.

Getting to the Yaki on good terms only happens once or twice. Not that i don't love flying suicide through the Xenon sectors to get there on another ship though, especially my shuyaku vanguard freighter with a load of marines.

After going through the Northriver plot, i went looking for a fast ship, with some argon travel mk3 engines stuffed on the back and good travel speed mod as well, the Katana is flirting with 10k cruise speed. that makes it the fastest thing in my fleet. with a similar upgrade to the Moreya, it will easily get beyond 10k speed.

One thing Argon engines lack is the quick acceleration of Terran engines, so finding a mod for that would be nice. so it makes it easier to escape and evade as i go.

The Kuraokami is actually slower than the Katana. But its a lot more agile and makes way better use of its guns, of which it also has one more. In the end during my tests for escort vessels the Kura was just "fast enough" to catch everything and have that evasion bonus - but then had enough agility and approach time to tear everything to shreds in one go - where the Katana often required several (2-4) approaches (vs Kha'ak).

And you can have the Yaki on good terms permanently not just twice. Depending on your choices during the plot. IIRC thats the requirement to purchase the bluprint anyhow, that temporary standing during the mission wont work.
They are my best customers and purchase their Kuraokami's in my shipyards. From where they spread chaos and wrecks. They are ... aggressive would be an understatement. I watched a single YAK Kura tear a Rattlesnake to shreds just to face-jump that approaching Behemoth with the same result the very next second.

And yes the Moreya "Geometric Owl" became my go to self produced interceptor. With neutron gattlings for perfect pilot training (and fireworks). 3 star within an hour.

Yeah the handling and pitch and yaw of the Kuraokami is probably second to none? It's a proper pirate ship. Fast and deadly.

But other ships can be 'better' once you know how to handle them like the dragon. I can glide in with a dragon, 6 modded taus at almost point blank range and then away and around again to finish them off and they don't even know what hit them half the time. Six, modded taus is a big deal and that's why I love the dragon. :)

Can these ships not be unlocked as known designs on custom start? Or do I have to go earn them in a save before hand?
ArcticISAF Aug 11, 2023 @ 12:17pm
Custom start you can do quite a lot with no restrictions, blueprints included. Budgeted start I believe the things affected by unmodded playthroughs are the points you get in each category and the story states without having to tick unlock stories. I don’t think there’s limitations on blueprints in either (except point totals in budgeted).

Well I was trying to do a budgeted custom start (No interest in the unrestricted one) and I couldn't see any of the mentioned designs at all, so I was wondering if it requires story progression or unlocking in an existing save to have them even be in the list.

It's not an easy path. You will need to be strong enough to totally wipe out xenon from several sectors. But these are juicy sectors. All my miners flock to them when I steralise them no matter where their station is. It's pretty much late game stuff and you will need your own shipyard and a few hundred million at least and one great big effing fleet. Yeeeeeha!!!
Yuki Aug 11, 2023 @ 2:02pm
You dont need that. The story path that unlocks YAK as allies doesnt need a ship at all. (Except you do need "something" to fly there first of course).
You will be given sufficient ships along the way, including another Moreya- which will even be marked as friendly to Xenon.
Sadly only for the duration of the mission. It does have a single rather "juicy" combat sub-mission though and a neat destroyer as "reward" at the end. Google the "Syn mission". Thats the one you need. It can be completed as soon as you are friendly to TER.

lmao I guess I've always done it the hard way.

Those sectors are juicy.

Of course the story of that mission might inspire you to indeed come back and liberate the Yaki. That must have been like:

"Hey Yak! Guess who's here?"
"Oh god, its that annoying fish again."
"Shut up- she sells us our ships so just bear with it. Oh dear herald, how may we help you today?"
-oO(Annoying fish hm?) "Oh during my studies of the ♥♥♥♥ errectus species (hopefully they dont get that) - You are human, basically, right? I came across a very interesting piece of entertainment and species exclusive humor. It is called a knock knock joke, would you be willing to help me in my research?"
"I gonna make sushi of that fi-"
"Of course, lets hear it!"
"Knock knock."
"Who's there?"
"Me."
"Me ... and?"
"Me and the largest fleet you have ever seen here to liberate your system of your infestation problem. All ships - jump and: fire at will."

Sadly it doesnt make them a proper faction though. I just pushed through without touching any station to clean their system and get them to that point. To give the Xeno's a two front battle. Didnt work.
