Why is my miner not mining?

So I got a heavily equipped mining ship and tested it myself it works great! So I set a captain 1.5 stars to auto mine and decided to follow him. Now he just keeps turning big circles in the astroid field. And whens canned theres tons of sillicon astroids. So why doesnt he mine them?

Try going away into another sector. The miners don’t have the best AI when watching them. If it collects while you’re away from it, then it’s good to go.

You can totally watch your miner mine though what sector you choose matter as they like to mine dead asteroid.

There an inconsistent bug with M miner as well where they don't vacuum up the ore but instead spin around trying to grab it.

I don't know what proc it but it got introduced I think in 6.0 after the pathing changes

well, idk what u mean by that? I said I tested the ship and it works fine, hes got a Mk2 mining laser and a ship full of crew.

This only applies to large miners, I guess the OP has a medium one.

Another BIG factor is the resource richness of the sector where the miner is, for manual mining it doesn't matter much but for automining it's critical. Check the sector's encyclopedia entry to see overall quantity (for minerals, at least a million units) and deploy resource probes to see the density around it (for ore and silicon search, at least 1.0/km^3).

Hmmh I dont really understand that. So they have to fly many sectors away to mine sillicone while theres a crap load of sillicon right outside? I dont even think I can have them make jumps or move them further because theyre too low skilled.
