How do you count sectors?
Ok so this may sound like a dumb question but how do you count sectors when it comes to managers and traders/miners distance?

So say the manager of a station has a max range of 5 sectors.... do you count the current sector as 1 then the next sector as 2 then next as 3 and so on?

Or do you count the next sector as 1 then the next after that sector as 2?

Also how do you count them sectors that have 2 or 3 sectors in them like grand exchange? Is grand exchange counted as 3 sectors? Or 1 giant sector?

Thanks.

Sectors are the large hex so Grand Exchange is the sector. Any orders set for Grand Exchange I applies to the other 2

All jumps counts as 1 sector
Accelerator and gates counts as jumps

Only exception to this is super highway
The blue doted line which doesn’t count as a jump

Saturn and Grand Exchange being the most famous example

The range of managers is counted in jumps. So the current sector is 0 jumps, the next sector 1 jump.

To illustrate what was said by the other posts, have a look at this highly detailed (may contain sarcasm^^) image on the x4-wiki: https://www.egosoft.com:8444/confluence/display/X4WIKI/The+X-Universe+And+Map#TheX-UniverseAndMap-LayoutoftheX-Universe

Thanks for the replys everyone.

So the highway don't count as a jump?....

So I have a trading station that's in Nopileos fortune VI the super highway is 1 sector away in pious mists II...

Does that mean that Gaian Prophecy would be 5 sectors away from Nopileos Fortune VI since the highway don't count as a jump?

What I mean is that my traders would go to pious mists II that's 1 jump... ride the highway all the way to Second contact II flash point and that would still count as 1 jump when they arrive in second contact II flashpoint?

What I'm trying to do is I have my Main factory's in Nopeos Fortune VI but the max trading range for manager is 5 sectors.

Now I wana trade my stuff to the Terrans but they are more than 5 sectors away from Nopileos fortune VI

So I want to make I guess you could call it an extender.... I want to place a trading station that would transfer all my wares from nopileos fortune VI to this other trading station then have that manager boost the range I can sell my stuff further if that makes sense.

Thank you for all and any help btw. I know it's probably a dumb question lol

You are confusing the ring-highway with a super highway.

While on the ring highway you still use jump gates to get to the next sector, which counts as a jump.

The super highways are the "jumpgates" which connect very nearby systems like all the grand exchange subsectors.

Basically every big hex jump counts as a jump, every jump from a small hex to another small hex inside the same big hex doesn't count as a jump.

My idea would be that each sector you enter you place a satellite/beacon and number them in order then make a note of sector name/number.

Thing is, the ships like the highway ring - even the L ships that can't use it. So, is the range determined by the shortest number of jumps ships could possibly get, or the number of jumps they will actually make?

And, if you put up your own roadblocks by blacklisting sectors, does that affect range? Obviously, if you blacklist the target sector then there won't be any trading there, but you could also blacklist a neighboring sector that makes travel far longer than it would be otherwise.

i think the big hexes are referred to as 'Systems' and the small hexes inside them are called 'Sectors'

Good question. I don't know. If you find out please share. ^^

Yes, roadblocks affect range.

Not quite correct. For example Second Contact is a system with 3 sectors which are quite a distance away from each other, so you need a jump to travel between them (-> big hexes). Second Contact II is a sector in that system. The bold lines define a system.
Another example: Sol is a system. Mercury, Venus, Earth, The Moon, ... are all sectors, with Earth and The Moon being so near to each other that you don't need a jump to travel between them (-> small hexes inside one big hex).
