Mining the Void - Need Advices
So I got to the point in the game where I could outfit some miners with incredible shield mods - basically all the hard missions give you a miner with an Epic shield gen. Currently I'm in dire need of methane for the Atiyah's terraforming mission. Problem is that trucking it from Oort's Cloud or the Asteroid Belt is a long pain in the ass.

I discovered that with maxed out shields, a large miner could shrug off the Void effects with zero issues. It doesn't even dent it. The problem is that the game is basically hard-coded not to let your auto-miners (even working from a station in the Void) to mine there for some reason.

I can't seem to find the setting for the station manager to reduce the jumps for the subordinates, he levels up to 1 star too fast and then my gas miners are effing off to God knows where to mine tiny bits of meth when they fill up in 3 seconds right next to the station if I manually tell them to.

Now without cluttering my "unassigned" list with independent miners (my OCD is already going nuts with all the repeat order traders), is there any way at all I can make them stay put?

You can assign Blacklists for allowed Sectors etc. to literally all of your Miners that are supposed to Mine in the Void individually.

This will overwrite the Blacklist the Manager applies to all his subordinates.

One step better, I made a white list for Void only and applied it to just the station manager. So far, so good. It's not 100% intuitive to find, but as I wrote that above I started poking around with rules and figured it out.

Would be nice to have a feature to slide the max distance for subordinates from 0 to max. You can see the range slider on their ship, but you can't manipulate it.

Well, dunno how recent this hidden blacklist against The Void is, but it makes sense, since in the future also in OOS ships will take enviromental damage, so as a general behaviour, that makes sense, as long as you can override it with a blacklist/whitelist of your own.

Give the miners a blacklist that only allows sector activities in The Void (you'll have to build your mining station there of course so they can deliver). The option is in the behavior tab iirc.

You also don't need purple shield mods to mine in The Void - all you need is 500/s shield regeneration which you can get with TER Mk3 shields and a good roll (~18%) on the green recharge mod.

Alternatively you can also get a decent supply of Methane in Pious Mists IV (yields are highest to the left of the resource band, just past the original sector borders).

I thought that I saw in one of the updates that if you drop a resource probe near the rad that ships will avoid the radiation area entirely. Or did I get this wrong.

My only issue with that is that I'm trying to feed my main station resources in a constant stream for terraforming projects. Pious is too far to reach for a few of them without daisy chaining or cluttering my unaffiliated list with 100 cargo haulers on repeat.

They already do take damage in some cases (like the Void), but it's easy enough to face tank with enough L-sized shields and maybe a repair drone.

As far as how old the black list is, at least since a few beta patches, maybe forever. I've never seen a miner voluntarily mine in the Void.

Right now I'm playing 4.0. and ships are not taking environmental damage when I'm not present IS within the 90 km area.

They do in the beta but with 500/s shield regen you're fine OOS.
You shouldn't go IS though because the mining drones will die in seconds if you do.

As far as i am concerned as PLAYER right now... reducing the possible choices a Ship can make to the absolute minimum is the route i take.

My current Base of operations is in the Northern Savage Spur for example... i don'n want Mining Ships to even consider going to Getsu Fune or beyond as it would be too time consuming for them to just return Home.

What have i done? i have created two Blacklist that only allow said ships to fly through the northern Savage Spur, Matrix, Tharkas Cascade, and both Hatikvahs Choice.

Thats were Ships that Mine for Spur Stations are allowed to mine in... and i have to say, i have to see them violating that rule yet.

A similar rule is in place for Traders that export my Terran Tech into the Belt, Saturn etc.
