Performance Intel vs Amd

Anyone has any real benchmarks for what's better for X4?
Mostly curious about the whole
Intel = higher frequencies vs AMD = larger L caches

I have always preferred higher single core clocks on Intels with water cooling + OC.
Don't really have high L cache cpu experience...

Thinking of upgrading here to the newest gen, can't decide...

There's a large performance thread on the official Egosoft forums, though due to some versioning shenanigans, the results seem to be somewhat unreliable.

From what I have seen, if you can get your hands on an X3D CPU, AMD is generally preferred. Otherwise Intel seems to offer better lategame performance.

Given the recent trouble with Intel CPUs that has been "fully fixed" three times now, I personally would prefer AMD, and for the next upgrade see if Intel gets their stuff together with Lunar Lake.

Note that X4 is also very memory sensitive. If you go AMD, spend some research on the correct memory config. Higher bandwith sticks can actually reduce performance on their platform.

With both Lunar/Arrow and 9000 X3D around the corner I think I will wait for those 2 to drop and make my decision then.

Good point about the mem, I will upgrade to DDR5 at the same time, gona have to research the best mobo+cpu+mem combo there.

My AMD Ryzen 9 9500X has been doing a fine job for a couple of years now, but it needs decent fast ram and plenty of it. It is also water cooled though it's not really any better than a good cooler. It just keep my pc lighter.

Went with 9800x3d and DDR5 @6400 cl32 2x32GB
gained a buttload of fps lulz
