For X5, there should be a way out of such situations that make sense, aka: let me just pay for the damage caused, or a fine if no damage was caused instead of starting a war over paint scratches.
Easy enough to implement in X4 for sure? I mean, they already hail you and apologise, why can't it be the other way around?
I'm sure some people will find a way to use it to game the system, but for the vast majority of us, we just want to be able to do a fleet op without it turning into a free for all brawl.
Right now, I tend to quicksave during battles and then quickload when something stupid like that happens.
Although, I'm unsure whether update 7 brought some "forgiveness barrier" in, because I haven't actually had a station turn hostile since 7, and I've had some real "oops" moments with all barrels blazing past an enemy and straight into the station.
I get it when you do damage with main, but those turrets are awful, especially flaks lol
Cant stress enough how much !friendly fire tweaks! is the one mod I cant play without. (Also that author has some other very good QOL mods.)
Look for the hostile ship with a crown beside it.
Thanks, will only use mods after this first REAL playthrough, want to get some of the achievements and they're only doable in vanilla.
Ah, cool, tyvm.
I've only ever tried it with a 1 on 1 accidental hit, never with a fleet because by that time, I figured that it wasn't actually doable.
Will try that next time rather than just reloading.
Thanks!
I also never saw an option to apologize, although NPCs certainly apologize for hitting my ships.
The game has no hit-check for stuff, not even for beam weapons like the Rays lasers. (The amount of times I have gotten my butt enlightened by those blue lasers is just... ridiculous.)
A turret should always check if it would hit something else than the target and stop shooting.
My turrets deleted L transporters because they happened to sneak into their firing range and turned red... I couldnt even react quickly enough before the 5 rattlesnakes turned the thing into a molten piece of scrap metal... (pissing off half the system, causing a small scale war because everythign came at me, without any chance to stop it. Hatikvahs Choice is a notoriously annoying sector when it comes to this. But its also too important to not regularly go there and do a bit of a clean up.)
Flak turrets are also hideously annoying to handle, and most of the time I simply disable them because they cause way too much collateral damage.
And maybe, just maybe... the (for example) TER intervention fleets S ships shouldnt fly into my flak turrets firing arcs - its not like their range is unknown sorcery.
Or, in general, the AI (*sigh*) should just not fly in between 2 Ks and 5 rattlesnakes, but what do I know... yolo! the 20 water bottles in the cargo bay are definitely worth the lives of everyone on the ship, the ship itself. (Maybe there should be a systemwide comms call that goes like this: "My name is cpt. blah, and this is jackass" given how dumb that is.)
=============
Turrets should at least check if their current firing direction would hit a friendly ship, that would reduce the issues by 95% probably, only leaving "stupid S ship flew into flak" issues etc. which arent that much of a problem.
This normally happens in story missions, where you have to defend someone. A good spot for this problem to happen is Terran Conflict storyline. If you arrive in ship with turrets and fight close to station, you WILL hit it, and the station will scream at you. Similar thing can happen in Paranid plotline, when you need to defend a ship close to station.
Examples of ships that can trigger this are Katana, Chimera, Falx. There are many others. The reason why it is easier to trigger the issue in them, because some of those ships are fast enough for dogfight, and when dogfighting you may end up close to neutrals.
You ever have a big exciting shootout filled with your own fleet, allies, and enemies? Or have a fight by a station?
Such a buzzkill.
