The sectors and their faction are a bit different at first, but they provide nice station module blueprints.
You get a wide variety of ships as well. Some are more useful than others. The racing ships (sans Dart) are merely for fun and joyriding, while the Terran ships are quite nice. They're not OP, but will serve you well, especially after getting adjusted in 7.10. Also, these are all mass producable, making the Odachi a nice contender for patrol corvette and the Sapporo a candidate for anti-fighter duty.
You also get a few uses of unique paint mods with each of the ships.
The fact that you can get some of the new xenon ships is also nice, especially for saves where the Xenon are extinct. Keep in mind though, that these can not be produced en masse.
EDIT: also forgot the most important ship, the Xperimental. It's a worthy player ship from early to late game. Fast and powerful. Definetely worth it.
All of the xenon ships are on the low end of mediochre. They come with a good looking skin, but can't really hold their own in any decent fight.
The eXperimental shuttle is incredibly good. Perhaps not the simplest ship to get used to, but when you do get used to it, it's easy to forget it's a small ship.
The 'sport' ships are disappointing, due to the lack of travel drive, they serve no practical purpose other than looking good.
The cutlass is a great little fighter, and exclusive to your faction. Perhaps a little slow (for my tastes) but the guns are powerful and accurate.
The odachi is similarly a great medium fighter, mostly due to the excellent guns.
I'm struggling to like the Sapporo. The barrage missile launcher is a waste of materials vs stations and feels under powered when attacking capital ships. In my present game, I'm not in a situation where I need any more anti-fighter capacity, so it feels like I can't give it a fair test.
However, I do like that we have faction ships exclusive to our player faction... I'd love to see some more equipment options for them, and a wider variety, but it's a start!
Especially Sapporo, such a beautiful ship
The experimental shuttle is amazing though. That's the only cool one in my opinion.
Edit: Oh yeah, the sectors, especially the one with the beautiful station/system was a great experience, unlike Timelines.
Having the Sapporo, Cutlass and Odachi means that you have something you can build in your Wharf / Shipyard the moment you get it... Once you salvage them, you'll get the blueprint.
As for the Odachi, i really wanted to love it but the lack of shields is a big problem, needs Mk 3 shields.
I heard Odachi can only have 1 loadout is that true?
Some of the missions offer unique experiences.
The free patch added a notable amount to the game.
What free patch?
