How much do you save building your own S/M Ships...?
Vs Buying from a faction with 28 Rep?

And not having your own production chain for all the required ship components/parts?

Thanks!

If you order a ship, you can click on the plus symbol next to the different ship equipment.
Write down the materials needed in Notepad or Excel. And of course the price you have to pay for the ship.

The ingame encyclopedia shows you the average prices for the wares in the game.
I think you can do the rest. :)

Depends on the prices you buy the materials for and the current state of the shipyard/wharf which will fluctuate the ship prices. But on average it will be about 5x the cost of the materials to buy a ship from a faction.

Easy to calculate, just look up what she ship costs to build and multiply by the average price of wares, 3 minutes with windows calculator and you have your answers.

Just saying, Hull Parts are always in high demand at wharfs and shipyards, So you are paying a premium for pretty much all parts of the ship as that station will constantly be producing ships for the faction.

One thing you cant calculate is the value of the time it takes your crews to purchase all the needed wares. Another is the value of the time it takes your chosen Shipyard to assemble your ordered ship.

With those factors in mind I decided it was worth the investments to build self supplying Shipyards. With the additional growth those Shipyards have given me I no longer worry about such small cost differences .... even if I could work out the true values.

On the same topic, do you need to do the research missions to make ships in the first place? or just buy and build the fabrication for ships module?

you shoudln't have to do any research to build ships as long as you have the blueprints for whatever hull you want to lay down

Thanks I just havent gotten to building ships yet, too much time testing mods.
I am going to build a Huge shipyard now

I assume the more Fabrication modules you have the more ships you can build at once

No problem, I have a Wharf over by Grand Exchange (my PHQ. primarily for terraforming reasons) and a XL/double L shipyard in the belt. I haven't actually used the wharf much personally but I build L/XL off my shipyard all the time lol. I do believe more fabs=faster(more) ships built

On that terraforming note? Is that a story unlock or something. I have been spending all my time modding my game for a good playset.

On another note, for small/ Medium fabrication, there definatly is a lack of carriers to make them worth it, the argon carrier carrys 40 Small

The veil cartel mod if you download it carrys 60 S

DaBa's got it - it looks like you pay about a 400% assembly/blueprint/wharf premium when you use a faction wharf, so if you build your own wharf you're probably saving more than 80% on every ship. Of course, it's about 125M to setup the fabrication bay, and then you still have to pay for hull and engine blueprints for a minimum loadout, so it really depends on where you're at in your game and what your needs are.

Yeah IIRC you unlock it thanks to research through Bosu, and the Boron carrier (the XL Shark) can carry 64 IIRC. Terran's Tokyo carries 40, remember you can also supply some fighters to your destroyers as well as your battleships. Each class can dock small ships for some fighter escort. the Syn can carry over 30 lol (I do wonder where the tokyo stores its medium ships). Considering it has one medium dock, that's placed on the back of the ship by the engine you gotta wonder where it has storage for 8 corvettes/frigates

Not quite correct, some of the new dlc ships require research to unlock their blueprints. But other than the Timelines specific ships, the rest of the commonwealth/dlc faction ships, yeah.

Is there anything special stories Unlocks? I have just been playing sandbox guided as argon the whole time, the hatikvah start.

So it unlocks timelines ships over time? do they just automaticly get added to your blueprint pool?

Thank you for the correction I'll keep that in mind. I haven't done any of the timelines stuff so didn't know they had blueprint rewards lol

Completing all the Timelines stuff, unlocks several sectors and a faction that you can trade with for new station modules in the sandbox.

But talking specifically about ships, there are two that you can get through a mission that pops up, and the rest you have to locate throughout the map in the sandbox. Some of these will automatically unlock the ship blueprints upon collecting them in the sandbox (if I recall correctly), but others you need you will need to research to unlock in the sandbox. There are Xenon ships that can be found on the map in the sandbox and are unlocked through the Timelines stuff, but you don’t get blueprints for these
