We need a way to steal ship components and their Blueprints
Egosoft needs to allow the player to have some kind of in game way to steal ship components individually and also steal their blueprints. Its really hard to have a full pirate start with no ability to chop shop style remove and re-add components on other ships. Or even make your own components from stolen blueprints.

I don't normally play full pirate, but it is annoying when I have to make every single faction good friend so I can get the blueprints. It conflicts with the idea that players can declare/join a war against anther faction. I have to choose from blueprints and role-playing, in most cases I would prefer blueprints, and it is sad.

I think I saw some MOD enables reverse engineering, maybe worth a try.

In X3 you could do that in player headquarters, but sadly that's not in X4. And yes, gathering all blueprints is extremely annoying.

Yeah that was a lot of fun. I had set up a custom Xenon start where you were enemies with everyone including other Xenon. It was doable because I could capture ships and stuff and transfer equipment. I cant do that at all here. I wonder why they went with not allowing you to transfer ship equipment. I mean I would be okay with it if they made it so you could only do it at equipment docks you own or something. Also a way to hack a terminal to get a equipment blueprints would also be good. Or something.

reverse engineering ships to get blueprints would be a great feature!

Can't you steal blueprints by using one of those decrypting slicers on a security computer? I've never tried stealing anything so don't know.

That's not how you steal blueprints, that's for doing things like disabling a station's turrets or production.

You can only steal station module blueprints (defence modules, storage, habitat, production and dock modules, with the appropriate research). This is done by scanning a data leak (natural with a low chance, or guaranteed from an EMP bomb). You cannot steal build modules (shipyard/wharf).

You cannot steal ship blueprints or component blueprints as people are requesting here.

Thanks. In that case we need to implement it.

This would actually be pretty neat in vanilla ... even if we needed a special module to reverse engineer.

Reverse engineering is no magic trick though.

The major problem for the reverse engineer is to bring everything into the right order to make it work. KNOWING why it does what it does and what's making that happen. I've seen guns such as the US Colt 1911 that was reverse engineered by the North koreans/Chinese during the Vietnam war- and well it was interesting. It looked ok, but didn't work at all like a 1911 should.
In fact you often need several versions of the item before it is properly figured out, not one, and maybe not even then.

Easier just to steal them.

Without comprehensive blueprints stealing/reverse engineering its quite senseless to play pure pirate or war with everyone from the start. Adding that feature will greatly improve replayability.

Just a correction.
You can only obtain shipyard / wharf / equipment dock blueprints by purchase, you cannot steal or get by signal leaks.
Would like the reverse engineering for ships / equipment though.
would really help playing as pirates.
Since you should have to own shipyard first, it wouldn't spoil early game.
Although that could be a menu option, allow reverse / only with shipyard / at hq without shipyard / not.

Side note: a lot about reverse engineering might be materials construction / tolerances.
like carbon steel making strong swords / folded steel (or something).

I read recently that until the 1990's China was unable to make high quality ball bearings, and imported from Switzerland (not verified story - and not a dig at China).

Reverse engineering as part of Boso Ta research programs would be fit very well and be very welcome.
They already did this (in a way) with the Timelines ships, so why not expand it to all factions.

Yeah I think that is a cool idea. I really just think we should be able to steal them.

I am so tired of the idea that Boso is the everything squid. Lets have a new expert who can do something he cant. I would be fine with some other type of researcher or thief join the station and will help for a price.

Well, Boso is the researcher and Dal the political analyst (and underground contact) so we'd need a new companion with a different skillset.
A Teladi industrialist maybe ? Would be a good fit for a profit minded individual to focus on reverse engineering to sell to some what others won't.
