Rattlesnake outfitting ?

Is there a main gun with more reach than stock captured ships have that can be installed to keep your pilots from driving right into station gun range?
I think I have the fire groups set up properly, L class set to capitol ships only and M set to fighter only but if I don't take over control one of my pilots will get too close and get vaporized every time.

No.

Sadly the weapon range of the rattlesnake main weapon is very low, like 6.9 km or so. And if the pilot and service crew have a low skill, the range is probably even lower.

Better use other destroyers to fight against stations.
