Hey hey hey! Checking in regarding the AI issues in the past
As the title said, I've been reading and following this game since it came out, but. Everyone complained all the time on the stupid AI in the game.
Has this been fixed or is the AI still dumb as a brick?
Or, has it at least been improved?

Thanks!

Bits have been improved. Some of us argue other bits have been made a bit worse.

It's still a brick, but it's a brick that navigates jump gates a bit better and some other bits too.

the AI is far from perfect, but a lot of most people's issues are likely just operator error. Now what caused that operator error (just a player misunderstanding or a lack of information to guide the player in the right way of setting things up being offered by devs) is a whole different conversation. the game, in my opinion is very worth it. Like rome 2 total war, and Stellaris this is one game that I can come back to after months of not playing, jump right back in and have fun some more. It does what very few other games have tried to do when it comes to the space genre

Certainly better than it was at release, though that isn't saying much. Regardless, it's my go-to space sim, and has been since it came out, replacing X3: TC. I dabble in Star Citizen and have tried Elite, but they just don't have that same feel of being able to do whatever the hell I want.

Carriers with AI fighters work alright now, as long as you're able to replace the losses. I never bothered with that at all in X3, because they'd suicide against their mothership, themselves or anything else they deemed fit for collision testing.

Imagine if star citizen and elite were one game. with none of SC's issues. Wouldn't that be amazing lol

IMO the AI is bipolar. Sometimes it works amazingly, and I find myself in immersive battles (or on a station with immersive traffic patterns), and it's magical. Other times I find myself banging my head on the wall because the AI does something stupid..

For me personally, the immersive moments far outweigh the head-banging moments, so I enjoy the overall game. You just need to wear a figurative "helmet" to prevent a concussion, LOL.

Ok, awesome, thank you all for your answers/comments/opinions! It seems that the AI is 'better' than it was a year ago.
My brother played it back then and he had some insane issues with attack capital ships. Not directly attacking but floating around.

Anyway! I am gonna risk it and get the game. The sale is insane now so!

I dunno. I've always found the AI quite good. It does sometimes strangely cop out, but usually it's good. Then again, I don't really do much fleet stuff with dozens of ship stuff at all so I guess I stress the AI less than most others.

I have however already put in a beta issue for an Ai problem that's existed from 7.00. I hope it gets fixed.

That can happen for a number of reasons I've done a good job it feels recently when adjusting their turrets to attack more specialized targets (L plasma shoots only cap ships, L turrets of any other design but missiles target cap ships first med turrets target fighters/missiles first) and assigning the cap ship escorts for destroyers, carriers and battleships too bombard for their commander. lot of that has seemed to help when it comes to them fighting other cap ships (haven't done much station popping yet focused on other things)

I watched my Asguard line up and 1 shot an I with its BFG.
First time I have ever seen it not fire that thing into space randomly.
Also watched my S ships get away from the exploding K and I instead of dying to it.
The AI seems much improved in 7.0

I never much cared for Elite to be honest, apart from its absolutely excellent VR mode which immersed me like nothing else.

Star Citizen + X4 however (with a single player mode), that would be a song for the ages.

I once had 10 or so Asgards in a group erasing stations (few years ago). And I did go to the bridge of one personally to watch the carnage. Think I lost maybe 1 of them, in a few hours of play. They did occasionally hit their friends for a brief second though.

The fun far outweighed the AI wonkiness that day, for sure.

I haven't done a station siege yet. But in my 6.2 all my asgards would just turn sideways and act like ships of the line firing turrets at the station. Often at a dead module and doing no damage if in sector. I hope that is improved.

Depends on what turrets you use, maybe. Reckon I had mine outfitted with all plasma, though they almost only used the main guns that time.

Plasma for me as well. I never saw any destroyer actually use their main guns on anything.

Generally, they don't seem to, but the Asgards did at least that one time. Seems my Asgard death fleet was more like 20-25, not 10. ♥♥♥♥ went down fast.
