For large trader I actually really like the Argon Shuyaku as it has cargo and still have decent speed
Carrier my personal favorite is the Colossus/E variant with Tokyo coming in 2nd.
Colossus have the better attack launch because it has 10 launch pod to launch all internal and an amazing 4 M docks so you can have an actual fleet of M ship ready to go
I like the Shuyaku but only cuz of the massive cargo space. I feel like its one of the slower trade ships though I could be wrong.
The 18 small docks and cap of 40 fighters/heavy fighters make the tokyo my most used and default carrier though the Colossus E is one I also plan on fielding
- Rattlesnake for myself (dont give these to the AI to attack stations xD)
- Ray for the AI (big shields, wich is good for the AI, also long range, decent turrets.)
- Syn for the AI (pretty much the best you can give the AI, I think.)
- Guppy, for patrols and stuff
Carriers:
- Raptor (as "parking lot" for my S/M ships)
- Raptor (as "Flyswatter" for the AI, only works IS, not OOS.)
- Shark for the AI, it tanks well, and it has that new undocking/docking mechanism which reduces "AI trouble".
Traders (L):
- Boron/Split ones, and some Teladi after the overhaul. (Visuals are the most important factor when deciding what ship to use, storage space is overrated xD)
Miners (L):
- Anything that got a redesign and has acceptable shields
Miners (S/M):
- None, KHK too annoying
M-Ship:
- Cobra (dakka dakka flak turrets go brrr)
- Dragon (when you really want something to disappear, especially with terran pulse lasers.)
- Hydra (good sniper, good shields, but smells like fish.)
Constructors:
- Boron/Split - just like the design the most.
My standard, ai fleet is a Raptor with 100 fighters with Blast Mortar mk2 and 30 plasma Cobras. 10 Syns, 10 Asgards and an Orca.
My personal fleet is a Shark, Orca and all the destroyers that you find or are given (which isn't many, but this is a personal fleet) all modded to hell and some nice paint with their own unique logo.
Nice. I did used to use Guppies instead of a carrier. I'd use 4 Guppies with 8 fighters each. It wasn't bad for surgical strikes.
I think a lot of people overlook just how many ships Syn's can hold lol. I don't use them that way, but I was aware of it and it crossed my mind. Meh I just love carriers. They are the chief in my fleets. Everyone else protects them.
Behemoth Sentinel- For overall combat and combat support: (I hope Egosoft will make it the "mini carrier" one day.) I prefer the look of the new Behemoth over the Sentinel though. It's all sleek looking.
Syn- I like the look and feel of it as well as how it performs but blue wiggly spaghetti ammo kills the immersion for me. That's just silly looking. What the hell fires wiggly anything? Come on!
Carriers:
Raptor- Coolest looking undock for 30 Condensate haulers. It's also neat to watch the ships dock in it. It's the closest looking carrier to a ship that I've always wanted to fly in Eve Online but never could justify flying it. Large squads of S fighters undock from it quickly as well. You can also train a lot of service crew with it)
Shark- Great for Mixed fleet of M Interceptors, smaller sized S fighter/bomber squads and you can train a lot of service crew with it.
Tokyo- Even though I don't use it, it reminds me of X:Rebirth for some reason. I suppose I like it for the nostalgia effect it gives me. Too bad it has a giant circle in it. I would use it if it wasn't for that circle. It looks very useful.
Colossus- It is an even smaller version of the Shark.
Traders (L):
Selene- It was my first pirated freighter and its really fast. It does not scale with large empires very well if you have a lot of manual trades/wares to move
Shuyaku- Large cargo, Large HP, Survives great with support, scales wonderfully with large empires needing a lot of manual trades/wares moved.
Miners (L):
Magnetar- My current play through is following an ARG type faction where they are racists against anything non ARG/ANT. Aliens get fired on the spot 5 stars or not. I just like it. It's like the turd you never want to look at but when you do, you are impressed.)
Builder:
Albatross- It looks like a ship from the Matrix. Teladi also has the most spacious and comfortable setup to view station constructions.
Which goes perfectly with the new Timelines lore. I'll let you discover why.
That's not a fleet it's a fricking i mean frakking ;) armada xD
Multi-Purpose Destroyer - Syn
Fighter Defense Destroyer - Phoenix (7.0 new version)
Carrier - Tokyo
Corvette - Katana
Heavy Fighter - Pulsar Vanguard
Light Fighter - Nova Vanguard
Large Trader* - Argon or Teladi (rare case when I'm not a fan of Terran design)
Large Miner - Terran
Medium Miner - Argon or Teladi (again, not a fan of Terran design)
Small Trader / Miner - Courier Sentinel (love that interior)
* I also use the Eriking as a trader, as it can hold a lot of cargo and fight off just about any pirate.
When I'm in a Star Trek / Orville mood, then I use Paranid ships with a human crew. I particularly like Paranid destroyers with a medium gunboat docked on the back - more turrets!
Carriers: Raptor to use as a mobile defence station, because nothing will get through the amount of turret fire and the swarm of fighters it can carry. Aslo i use the Shark as a Raptor's little and far more mobile brother to support my Asgard
Traders: 100% Incarcatura/shuyaku because only they can feed the resource black hole that is a Megawharf
Miners: Teladi ones because cargo space
As for smaller ships
Main fighter - Gladius with Proton barrage Mk2
Bomber - Pulsar Vanguard with Blast mortars Mk2
I also sometimes use Dragons with Neutron Gatlings on my carriers just for fun
Fave carrier? Utterly the guppy... I don't need much from a carrier, just something reasonably quick where I can fix up my smaller ships. The Guppy's cheap enough that I can leave it babysitting a wing of fighters somewhere and I can go away and do other stuff... By the point I have the XL carriers, I usually have the Asgard, making the carriers a little obsolete for destruction duty.
Fave trade ships? Anything industrial looking. Teladi ships for mining and trading generally, although I quite like the barbarossa as a trader too, even if it classes as a destroyer. If I'm playing a budgeted start, I do love to give myself the prometheus blueprint for regular station traders... It pretty much makes piracy a non-issue.
Fave medium ships? The Astrid has that lovely opulence for if I'm on an extended AFK or managerial sesh... For combat duties, I think I'll go with the kurokami.
Fave small ship? The Moreya. She's got speed, she's got guns, and she's got the looks. *Chef's kiss*
