I was asked to drop my cargo "F" button issue?
Ever since I came back to the game- anytime one of my traders gets accosted by a pirate - (I'm usually messing around with something else.) The "F" key just doesn't work like it used to. (a different "right click" box appears) I have to exit out of everything, click in empty space and then it will give me access the pilot's command menu thingy..... Even that sometimes doesn't work.

Now that I increased pirate activity in the verse it's starting to becoming slightly annoying. (I don't like to miss the opportunity for a pilot to get a skill chance roll increase so I always go after the pirate) Even though I have a global standing order for the ship to Escape and deploy laser towers - It makes me comfortable to know that I told it to escape. (Don't ask me why I know it's probably weird)

Will this be fixed soon or is it another thing that I'll have to get used to? Perhaps you know a work around?

Also a separate topic but another question I have is the click to steer when steering assist is disabled. What happened to that? I used that all the time, I would change weapon loadout to a loadout with no weapons and then be able to steer by holding down the mouse button. What's going on there? Is there a workaround for this too? Am I remembering this wrong? Or am I just crazy?

I was able to capture a screenshot of my issue. This "right click" menu never used to pop up. I used to be able to press F and the pilot's command options would appear.

Same here.
save and reload has been the only fix I have found so far. Am getting this on the regular especially when in the map.

I wonder if this is fixed in 7.1 beta.
Gibbo Jul 9, 2024 @ 11:55pm
Yeah I get this. It's worse when you are sat down as sometimes the orange flashing box doesn't go away (the text in the box does). To get rid of it stand up and point your cursor at the chair.

You know, I've completely forgotten to make a bug report about this to Egosoft even though it happens to me a lot. Sometimes the `F` key or whatever key you choose simply does not pop up and then I frantically have to try and find whoever's in trouble to give them an order. Often they're destroyed before I can do it. It seems when something is going on (like you're in a fight or in map) it happens, but that's when you need to be able to hit the `F` the most. Definitely needs fixing.

Not an easy one to do a Save for though, cos it may not replicate on their side.

Do you think they will address it anytime soon? It's a little weird navigating/working around this mechanic.

Egosoft has a LOT of issues to look at and fix and they often say they're a small team and it's all prioritised. So you have to help them.

What I mean is, go on Egosft bug reporting and inform them of the issue, hopefully with a Save if you can. This is s a good time since they're right in the middle of a Beta too.

I see people complain and expect others to do it all for them, but sometimes you have to do it yourself if you really want things to happen. I have seen things change slightly cos I made the effort. Granted, it can be frustrating wondering if they even saw your post and you may have to wait awhile to see a result. Try not to get mad at them.

However, there is still no guarantee from Egosoft that it will be done since you are not the only one with issues.

Sorry that this likely not what you wanted to hear.

I can guarantee you that they see the reports on their forum. Of course, they don't often reply to every thread / agree that it is indeed a bug / can replicate the bug / or are able to fix it in a short time.

They even respond to bug reports by email.
I can't think of any other company (apart from a photo software developer in Dallas) that has ever responded to an e-mail bug report with anything other than a standard letter.

We can complain about many things in this game and its quality, but we cannot complain that they do not care. They have been supporting this game for 6 years now and are constantly developing and fixing it. They even update their very old other games to run on new hardware.
Gibbo Jul 17, 2024 @ 2:14am
I dunno why people insist on moaning on here. There's a 200 page thread of pure whining somewhere. They won't read that on here lol. And when you say "go on their forums" you're just met with feeble excuses. The real reason they don't post on there is because it's full of hardened X players who will rip most of their compaints (and them) apart.

Still, no denying there are some issues, but all you're doing on here is shaking your fist at God because they will probably not read it or care for it. Go to Egosoft forums or reddit when they have a AMA and then you can speak directly to the devs and even the chief.

I wasn't saying they didn't care.

However, I have been around long enough to see even better. Ok, this is going back a bit, but I actually wrote a LETTER to a games company about a bug issue and they replied back with a rather nice letter!

I made a forum post about how a game (a sim) could be better with my ideas and to my surprise the Head Dev actually phoned me and we had a long chat about how it could be better for the game! I kid you not.

I have helped several games improve by my suggestions (which were insistent but ALWAYS polite) until a Dev noticed and seen some of them implemented.

So yea, some games companies really DO care. Not many, but some.

the lesson I have learned from this is that no matter how much I am told by people on a forum that something `can't` be done, I know it can, if just the RIGHT people hear of it and care enough. :)
