However, if you want, you could start with just the base game, play for a bit, pick a DLC at random and enable it... It will add things to your game in progress... Once you find and explore that, repeat with another DLC... Given that the story of the game is that the universe is recovering from a jump-gate shut down, and gates are slowly coming back online, that might provide a more RP rich experience if you care ;)
But honestly? I'd say just enable everything and enjoy the galaxy in it's full, open state.
(Depending on start).
The HQ is in a different position - with some missions if you don't have Kingdom end enabled.
Some gates will be closed - you can open them enabling the DLC.
- The economy of DLC factions will be less developed as they will not have developed in the background when you switch them on.
For initial games, I wouldn't worry either way. You will probably want to start again later once you have a better understanding.
Terran is a good start though, and has a simple economy.
You might find the game faster without DLC if you have an older computer, but that probably won't be apparent till later on. - 4-5 real time days in game!
Without the DLC some gates might not be open, pirates may not include those ships.
If you wish to start again without DLC, then remember any station plans with DLC components won't allow you to load them.
i started the game, played the tutorials and than the game started timelines.
really diddnt like the mission based stuff and i see in multiple discussion on steam that i am not the only one.
i know i can just ignore the timeline stuff and start the open universe.
But than should i leave the timeline dlc in or remove it. will i run into trouble since i diddnt do the mission stuff or on other hand will i miss out on stuff if i remove the dlc?
thx
Either way, this could lead to a corrupted save file since timeline stuff is used for the open universe, so you can't just disable a DLC and continue using the save. You have to start a new game if you do so.
But really, just let it be. Maybe Egosoft will rework some Timelines missions which makes them more enjoyable.
Depends on how long you get to play, if you have long sessions e.g. at the weekend play sand box, if you have an hour or so do a mission or two.
