Controller or M/K
Deciding after a LONG break getting back into the game. What are some opinions on mouse and keyboard vs controller?

When I played the controller was pretty rough.

You can have both going at the same time, this game lets you swap without issues. I like to use controller for flying, m & k for the menus

Honestly, I think the keybinds mappings for this game is one of the best I have ever seen.

I do play with HOTAS + M/K on different moments and the blend very well

I found the default profiles awful. Bought an xbox controller for something else and thought I'd try that in x4. also sucked - nearly refunded the game in frustration.
Custom is the way imho. I'm using keyboard mouse for menus and walking, HOTAS for flying and gone from hating the game to somewhat enjoying

I also dislike default profiles, I download a profile from internet and changed some binds and then now its really enjoyable

When I said that the keybinds mapping for the game was good I meant how much you can customize it, but I agree, default bindings are awful
My preference is mouse and keyboard for ship and station management activities for sure. WIth turrets working auromatically (or 'attack my target') and the aim assist gimbals -- I haven't tried X4 flight with controller yet but I suspect it'd feel pretty good.

I get on best with mouse and keyboard, I used to have a gamepad for flying, but now I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard alone.
The keyboard is almost unbeatable for the wealth of options and speed, in my opinion.

Controller AND M/K!

Controller for walking, flying, and some of the simpler menus (cockpit stuff). K&M for the map and associated menus and fleet positioning, as well as station design.
