Flak only good for Argon (Flak turn radius of Split is just ♥♥♥♥, the whole design around turret turn radius is ♥♥♥♥ IMO)
I've been testing 7.0 until last night in the vain hope that anything actually changed. Nothing has.
If you call a capital ships, what we called a century ago a dreadnought, you have not to be disapointed, since there is none at X4.
Even the Asgard, is not imo a battleship, but more likely a monitor like the WWI HMS Erebus class. In game it makes a good station wrecker.
If a destroyer is warship with large turrets and large shields, Battleships should be equipped with XL turrets and XL shields.
I would say the major problem is lack of M turrets, Iowa has 20x127mm guns, 80x40mm guns and 49x20mm guns and Asgard only gets 6xM turrets, that is a joke.
Raptor is the only ship that has a reasonable armament.
You can even give the Asgard escort weapons. 8 L beams and the flaks can do a decent job, and it isn't like that main beam weapon needs any help against the big targets.
Another game i played "space pirates and zombies" gave you the option to replace a L turret with 2x M turrets in the same location, swapping range and firepower for accuracy and speed.
For the most part I'm happy with L/XL ships vs S ships though, the turrets do a decent job of taking them out without invalidating S/M ships. If they improved the accuracy, you'd never be able to approach L/XL ships yourself which obviously wouldn't be fun and you'd end up in the position where it's just an arms race with S ships being completely obsolete in short order.
Funny how some have these problems and I never see them? I'd love to know what people are really doing? I mean I don't even mod the beams and they easily swat any fighters that come near them?
