Make the new faction act like the player please
So i read there will be a new faction whos sole goal is to compete with the player and be a rival for the player... is this true?

If this is the case...

i would love if the new faction acts and behaves and has the same rule set as the player.

what i mean is that the new faction has the same rep as the player with everyone 0 and xenon as enemies and yaki as enemies ect you know like the player default and the new faction has to work to gain rep like the player and their rep can go both up and down,

The new AI faction should also have no build or ship limits like the player. So it can build mega factorys and have huge fleets to fight the player.

It like the player should also be able to capture sectors.. Anyways you get what im going for here...

Thing is lots of people have been asking for like Multiplayer and others are against multiplayer ect imo this would solve both of these problems

Thew new faction could sort of work like a fake Multiplayer/Player and give sort of like a fake PVP and at the same time its one egosoft can control and edit at will so they wont have to worry about the troubles of multiplayer.

heck they could even use the faction as a longtime project for testing and studying ect like "hmm so the faction sees the player do this then it does this to counter that... interesting..."

then incorperate that same AI logic into the other factions like argon xenon teladi ect to give us real living factions...

im probally just rambling here with my fantasies of a more life like ingame AI faction that works and behaves like the player.

but in short all i really want is for this new faction to be an actual challenge.

i dont want this new faction to be a pushover that you can basically defeat in just a few days (although if its save game compatible i guess people already got fleets of like 70 capital ships ready to spawn camp this new AI but thats their problem.)

I feel that giving players someone to compete against that works and behaves like the player would give players a long long nice endgame that will be a good challenge.

Just imagine, AI faction dead 30 minutes in from trying to farm crystals in a bad sector. 100 hours before the AI faction manages it's first station.

No, this wasn't advertised. Could you cite the source where you got that impression from?

There will be some kind of "existencial crisis" - which so far (according to Bernd*) is about getting in a full-out-war with one of the [existing] factions.

The trailer does hint at another power driving the new missions forward. It doesn't say that's a faction.

I'm all for factions acting more like the player when possible. Right now, that is unlikely since factions get unlimited credits. If NPC factions had finite credits, they would need to have some sort of guaranteed income stream (like income from owning sectors) to ensure they didn't go bankrupt. But if there were some constant inflow of credits to the factions, there would also need to be some constant outflow of credits like ship or station maintenance, or else the economy would become flooded with too many credits over time.

Egosoft also does not want factions to act more like players because that might result in too much instability in the galaxy. It might mess up storylines if a story a certain faction to be in control of a certain sector, but that sector has changed hands due to random events. This could be helped though if factions were allowed to expand, but had certain limits placed on the size the could expand to. Or if a faction gets too small, other factions could have code to prevent other larger factions from taking more territory from the small faction. Or have certain storyline critical sectors be off limits for attempted conquest by other AI factions.

The trailer is about the DLC which will not add a new faction but instead add a new "gamemode" - where you basically play isolated scenarios outside of your main X4 sandbox saves. The "faction" within those scenarios can't be compared to the sandbox factions - they are merely a vessel to transport the story.

I'd say it's (very) important to not expect a whole new faction in the "traditional way". Will only lead to a lot of disappointment...

So before discussing any "what ifs" further here all should be on the same page here.

They say it on their official website they are adding a new faction lol...

Here's their official quote

"Existential Crisis: A new endgame challenge for veterans. Face off against a faction that goes all-out against you. This intense confrontation can be opted out of, for those seeking a more peaceful journey."

I don't see the word 'new' there. It could mean the Xenon or Kha'ak.

Of course, I don't see the word "existing" in there, either, so it could be a new faction. And there is one from previous games that we have yet to see....

I just remembered in X3 we had some weird UFO's? Very quick ET's. I don't think I ever caught one? They used to just pop up every now and then? I think they were in X2 as well?

I hope it's not them because their speed was outrageous. Clearly too advanced to fight. Not that we could catch them anyway lol.

Here's where I read it

Yeah, that's what I thought. They'd advertize it if it would be really a new faction. It's also only listed in the section "7.0 patch" - this normally isn't about huge new assets. A patch mostly only is about code / asset changes. New assets come through DLCs. (ship redesigns of the old outdated models are an exception) More below.

If Egosoft provides a AMA before the DLC hits - this question should be asked:
"Is the existential crisis about a new faction or does it involve the existing factions?"

My guess is that it "only" includes one of the main non-hostile factions (so Argons, Teladi, Paranids, Split, Terrans, Borons). And that it basically enhances the "go to war" button we already have. But instead only shooting at the player, the faction actively tries to remove the player. So actively targets the stations, sectors, isolated assets etc. pp.

My original thought was that it would be some "outer space crisis" (complete rewiring of the jump gates; potentially spitting out Xenon in "safe" places | anomaly rifts & gravimetric distortions; e.g. swallowing stations, ships (e.g. by popping up in highways) | planetary events like supernovas or "just" heavy solar activities ... ), but Bernd put already a damper on this when he talked about the faction-thingy in the video I linked above.

Heh - really a shame we don't have that in X4. It was fun chasing that thing to see if there is any secret to be uncovered. :lunar2019grinningpig:
