Any way to force turrets to open fire on active target?
I understand there is an 'attack my target' option in the ship men, which works fine against some targets. However, I want to force the turrets to fire on enemy targets which they will not engage, even when targeting said ship and using attack my target.

This can be worked around to some degree by initiating a boarding action on the target, which causes the turrets to behave as expected. In my case, I cannot board M transport ships, and cannot direct the turrets to fire at these ships.

Is there a function I am overlooking? maybe a script?

- Try resetting your turrets (disarm and rearm them).
- Shoot at the target with your ship's weapons (and hit it so that the turrets will recognize that as the target).
- If you're piloting a big ship like a destroyer, it's a common ocurrence for the target to be outside of the turrets' firing arcs.

I'm using the Barbarossa in this case. It will focus fire on most targets, xenon, khk, ships that have an active boarding operation.
They will not shoot at other hostile ships, ZYA at -30 for example, I must first start a boarding operation, or use another ship to damage them before the barbarossa's turrets will engage.

It seems like there is a reluctance from the turrets to target civilian ships

If you have attack my target selected, you will have to be piloting the ship with the turrets and click on the target you want your turrets to fire at (it must be selected) as well as have the target within the range and in the line of fire of the turrets. You may just have to angle your ship a different way.

edit: If you have "attack my current enemy" selected, ..... Sorry about that.

I'm a bit confused.. You can set turrets to "attack current target", which is different than telling a ship to "attack my target". This will cause turrets to focus on that target, regardless of what turrets you have, as long as they are in range, of course.

Now if you want to slave the turrets of other ships in your fleet to attack your target, then I dunno.. Theoretically if those turrets are set to attack current target, and the ships in your wing are set to attack my target, that "should" work, but I wouldn't bet money on it.

Lets see if I can clarify a bit more,
While manually piloting the Barbarossa, turrets set to 'attack my current target' will not attack (what I believe to be classified as) non aggressive ships.

Otherwise, the turrets work as I would expect, while using their corresponding functions.

Can it shoot you? I think you need to get it's aggro.

I suspect that is the problem, but my issue is that I cannot shoot my turrets in order to get aggro. This is why the boarding operation works, but again, it does not work for all ships

Mark as hostile?

I thought that was a think you can do to a ship

Yeah, I think this is what the OP wants, reading his clarification.

This presents the same behavior, additionally these ships are already marked as hostile (EDIT) and I cannot manually mark them as hostile, as my rep is -30

If your rep is naturally -30 your turret should be shooting like no tomorrow

So maybe you have a fire authorization that messing with them?

To shoot a target not actively aggro with a ship that has no active weapons, you'll need to target the ship, open the menu for it (F key) and select "Mark as Hostile." You can do this from the pilot's seat or from the Map screen by right-clicking on the target there.
Also, if you haven't, go to the Global Orders and change the Turret behavior from "Defend" to "Attack." This will ensure that the turrets will open up immediately upon detecting a hostile ship in range instead of waiting for you to initiate combat.

OP: have you tried setting your turrets to "attack all enemies"?
Venerable_Sin Jun 24, 2024 @ 2:48pm
I think I just figured it out. Go to your global orders and change the faction of the targeted ship to ruthless. Verifying now.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
