But each ship will need it's native materials to build, so Teladianium for Teladi, computronic substrate + microlattive for Terran and Hullparts for everyone else, ect.
The non-Terran ships need quite a few things to be built, so it's easy to overlook or run low on one material or the other.
Furthermore in my experience, the AI will buy ships at the nearest shipyard, provided it has all the necessary material for the ship. So if their own shipyard is fully stocked and your shipyard is further away from where the AI needs ships, they'll build them in their own yard.
The AI is also sometimes reluctant to buy ships with insufficient armament, so getting the missile and primary weapon blueprints favoured by that species can also help in boosting sales of your shipyard.
They also like it that you can supply their order in good time. So have storage bins for the supply of a small Patrol and your orders will come through. Add a few habitats for any customers so they can crew their ships
It feels good when you get your first orders for full Patrols, but even better when they start ordering L's
I imagine that faction sends own engineer with blueprints to control quality of works
