Rescue people - then what?
7.00 includes crew members bailing out of destroyed ships into spacesuits. Ok, pretty cool!

But when you pick them up, they enter an "unassigned" slot in a ship. Pick up 20 of them and you now have 20 unassigned people aboard a ship. Dread to think what happens when you lose an XL ship with 200 crew...

You cannot DO anything with these un-assigned people? Yes, you can transfer them in bulk to another ship -- but only as unassigned people again, which is useless. You cannot mass transfer them to ANY station, even your own if you have habitats with hundreds of free space (population). The "transfer crew with station" has presumably been greyed out since version 1 and remains so, strange this did not become an actual usable option with this new feature?

Therefore, is there only 2 options, leave them to die OR go through every single one manually re-assigning them (or firing them) ?? Come on, there must be some "end element" of the whole rescue people thing that isn't complete tedium, that allows me to disperse them back into my workforce. What am I missing? Thanks!

Do you recall what the literal steps to do that are perhaps please? Yes, this part is definitely the missing link for me.

On the "crew" tab of the ship's info panel (I think it's the second tab).

Thank you, I'll give it a go tonight. Yes, if that's the case, I can remove this thread cos it's a simple feature I've simply not found yet (and I check those crew tabs a lot so not sure how, but oh well!)

If you have unassigned crew on a ship, you can use them to increase either the number of service crew or marines by simply clicking and dragging on the appropriate slider on that "crew" panel. It's really that simple, and I've done this extensively during the beta test of 7.0.

One important point I've noticed is that the captain of the destroyed ship always seems to be among the survivors (last one to abandon ship my ass :steammocking:), so you won't lose those hard earned 3+-star captains.

Right, thanks yes I will be out to rescue the captains myself because they are family lol. The ambulance/rescue ship will come for the others, and if there really is a seamless unassigned > crew position in same ship slider, then it is perfectly facilitated in 7.00 and I've just missed a step possibly staring me in the face, thanks! :x4spacesuit:

No don't remove. I had the same question as you, as probably do many others. Instead mark the answer so people can see it right off without wading through walls of text.

I myself now need to try this "slider thing" next time I rescue crew.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Damn, that box was always there? well, thank you, yes I see it now. And I guess I saw that slider part of the crew panel every single time also, but my eyes always went from captains name straight down to crew names and I guess I never even looked at the middle part where the slider portion is. Thank you!

It WOULD still be nice to be able to transfer crew to station, I am still curious what that option is actually for if it is always greyed out (outside of say, the faction jobs to transfer over x number of managers etc). Would be kind of nice to dump your rescues onto a station, in time you'll see them walking around again and you can re-integrate them back into your workforce that way. Anyway, all is good for now, thanks for the answers!

I've never tried this myself, so I don't know if it's doable at all, but make sure you have room on your station, since many stations will fill their housing to capacity.

Please don't delete this. I had the same question and this answered it for me. Thanks for asking!

True, I did not check this statistic first and may have tried a full habitat one. I'm sure I've done the reverse before, Xen K or such attacked my main station and I did an evacuation and remember moving everyone off the station crew list, into a Split ship, down to the manager and we were the last off. Can't remember how I did that now either lol but thank you still some things to investigate then! (and will leave this thread up haha)

But isn't just rescuing people from certain death a nice reward in itself?

I'll get my coat...

I love that I don't lose my good looking, hand-picked 5 star pilots!

A side bonus is that rescuing them pretty much guarantee they level up in morale

This aspect of rescuing crew means that now I have several dedicated M sized ships in my fleets, like Cerberus Vanguards, who in addition to defense duty, are my "Rescue" ships.
Hugh Jaynus Jun 23, 2024 @ 8:37am
The way i would really like it to work is if you could drop the rescued personnel off at one of your stations and have them feed into the recruitment pool of pilots and service crew when you build your ships, IE: you've rescued 100 people and as you build ships with crew and pilots you draw from that pool of 100 until its exhausted and then you start tapping the universal random pool again.
