There is missing a ship type in the game .....
A universal freighter which can carry all types of cargo.

Aran ?

Yaki ships do exactly that. But you need the Cradle of Humanity DLC.

there is no Aran in vanilla X4 my friend... hence.. OP is correct.
There is no dedicated Universal Freighter in X4 and thats currently on purpose.

If we want to trade in Solid or Liquid Goods we have to use what already exists... be it Yaki COmbat Ships or repurpose Mining Ships to carry out Trade Operations with these wares.

Why is that so?
Because the NPCs do not have a need to Trade in Solid or Liquid Wares, they rather Mine such goods them self entire skipping the "Trade" part.

Only Players can think outside the Box and setup dedicated Mining Outposts wich would require dedicated SHips to haul Solids or Liquds... wich in return would allow to assign already existing SHips for Solids and Lquids to be assigned as Traders.

Long Story short;
Miners, Liquid and Solid, are not Locked to that Role.. they can act as Traders and Haul their specific Cargo Type without reinventing the Wheel.

Give a Miner a different Loadout or simply assing it the Trader Role and it is absolutely able to haul Soilds or Liquids around the Universe.

The Yaki Kurokami is about the closest you'll get to a universal trade ship, but honestly, it's a bit small for a trade ship. Better to just use specialist ships.

Maybe she's still out there somewhere, stuck in some lost sector... Don't give up hope!

(Yup, I loved the Aran too ;) )

Never got the Aran, but there is one thing I miss is the Gate Hub. Egosoft, please bring back the Hub! I conquered all the Xenon Sectors around the Free Split and I need the Hub to allowed stations within them trade together naturally (Tharkas Ravine IV (I named the sector Valinor) is the only place for Helium and is too far all but a 5 star auto trader to reach from Matrix #9 (Osgiliath) where most of my Terran stations will reside.

The Titurels in X:Rebirth had universal. Find your way back to the Reivers and maybe you can get one from them.

There is a universal freighter at x4 vanilla my friend...

So, affirmation is inexact, or at least partly false. The exact answer is ; there is no universal freighter player can use at X4 vanilla. However there is a universal freighter at X4> It is the xenon S which is so universal that she is also a miner.

Anecdot ; the xenon S is a M ship, and the xenon M is a S ship.

I suspect that the price of the convenience would outshine its usefulness.

It's not really a viable option. Why build one ship that can carry 3 wares when you can just build 3 different ships that carry more of each? The Yaki M class does have this, but that's for pirating and ores and gases are not very expensive so I doubt a pirate would waste their time doing that? The Yaki also have zero miners so think of it as their miner.

Miners are much faster than traders so even if traders could transport solids & liquids there'd be no point using them for it.
