But it's absolutely possible to do... Heck, you can get most of the way there flooding the market with Protectyon after doing the avarice missions.
You'll need a lot of production facilities to support a wharf module... Concentrate on getting those up and running first and sell the results until you can afford the blueprints you need... Don't buy it right away though, not until you can afford a full set of blueprints to completely outfit some ships to sell to the other factions...
A self sustaining wharf is pretty much a money printer, it can spit out ships just as fast as you can gather and process the raw materials, and if you have enough variety, the other factions WILL buy lots of those ships.
Stealing SCA destroyers and selling them will score you a few million in profit each time, if stations and trading is too slow for you... I tend to steal Pioneer ships for a quick burst of money, but that requires the Terran DLC.
Station building missions can be very lucrative if you do your maths and push the costs up to bump the rewards up to maximum.
All other BPs are 2x more expansive xD
But don't buy this DLC just for an option to gain money. Because to actually get the Protectyon stuff you need to manually collect the stuff which is quite annoying.
Better build more miners and stations. ;)
A properly maintained monster shipyard would make a few hundred miilion in about 10 minutes on seta so it doesn't take long once you take the plunge and build a shipyard.
Terran stuff and M combat ship blueprints get expensive though.
And you also need stuff to build ships with.
Starting with a closed loop eco is cheapest but that's still at least 20-30mil for the blueprints, ships and stations just to get a basic supply of materials flowing.
And you also need rep which I suspect will hold a lot of people back. Every game I've played I've had to do missions for some factions to get their rep up. Looking at the Split here. Boron can be quite slow as well? A few times I've ended up stuck on 19 rep with them despite doing the plot. Well most of the plot? Paranid can also take a while?
If you mix in a bunch of S miners as traders on your mining stations and Guillemot Sentinels as container traders you'll get rep so fast you'll be at 20 long before you have the money to afford a wharf.
