Everything in this game is too complicated .....
I like it because it gives you freedom ,like the old FreeLancer , but the devs have made all very difficult to use.

What do you find complicated?

I'm old too! You need time to adapt, at first its frustrating, then it will be like second nature. Let us know what you are having problems with and we can help. The game has a steep learning curve that we all go through.

The mechanics are unnecessarily complicated. This is a separate thing to the learning curve. The UI itself makes for extra work with it's click-heaviness. You do kind-of get used to it but it wastes so much time clicking in and out of layers. A much better interface is needed but like all things with this game you are stuck with it's jankiness.

I say that about everything. In the end it comes down to understanding it. I think all UI's are bad. But try comparing X4 to Eve Online.

The one thing that would help the UI issue is to add more keybindings to bring up specific screens instead of clicking on several layers of menus.

For instance, I want to look at the overview of a ship, I shouldn't have to click on the ship, then click ship Information, then click on the Info tab, then click on the Ship Overview button at the bottom of the screen.

Egosoft should do a survey of which screens we want to call up directly with a key bind.

Also, they should add the ability to create map markers to view different areas of the map when if you press a mapped key. For example, press CTRL+1 and the screen would move to the gate where Xenon are invading HAT space, press CTRL+2 and the screen moves to another hot spot near the Getsu Fune/Savage Spur gate. That way you could quickly keep tabs on areas of the map that might require your immediate attention.

Even better would be able to have several small toggleable "monitors", small mini maps, of hot spots off to the side of the main screen where we could keep an eye on what is happening in real time.

Difficult to set mining - trading - being a pirate - doing missions have no good help and many more , compare to this , i think Freelancer was a lot better.

Shift + enter. Takes you straight to ship info. If people are not going to bother to learn the UI then they will always moan about it. It's not perfect, but it's no where near as bad as some people make it out to be. Learn the shortcuts. Makes life a lot easier.

After many hrs of play i manage my first auto mine & trade !!! . The videos on Ytube do not help since the refer on to older versions, and make confusion worse.

Grats mate, see just keep at it, it will start to make sense!

I would not say the game is overly complicated. Complex but not complicated. The UI is why it seems complicated. I would argue the interface is complicated and not intuitive, but the game is actually pretty straight forward.

I've remapped pretty much every function to be more intuitive and I use a Thrustmaster TWACS and Logitech Pro 3D extreme so I have LOTS of HATs and buttons. Having all of those extra inputs is useless if there is no keybindings to map something to. What I was stating is there are a lot of screens that don't have ANY shortcut to them. If more shortcuts did exist, they would simplify the UI immensely. You could go directly to a screen without having to click on 4 other screens to get there. That was my original response which must not have been clear enough.

I'm sorry but this game is going to require you to learn the UI and what shortcuts there are. You can either do that and enjoy the game more, or carry on struggling. I know which one I'd choose. This game has lots of options which require lots of menus and it requires the player to learn these. Personally i wouldn't use a joystick. This game is very well suited to keyboard and mouse. In fact the way I play is very much like I'm playing a FPS.

Needs some hrs to learn it, but is good.....
