A Xenon type 9 or whatever destroyer is killing everything in the void and there are 2 more at Flashpoint.
How do I kill em???
I have 30 m to spare, the Odysseus without the front guns, a Condor, an osprey and a Peregrine. I have 20 Rep with Telladi. I can get a Phoenix...or should I get something else?
a K is easy to kill
an I however need a bit more finesse
You can grab that Ody and put the front gun on in paranid space and then fly it personally to kill the K by using your superior range
If it an I you should probably kill the engines before you use your destroyer to kill it.
Xenon ship are strong but they lack range
You'll need about 10 of the former for a K and twice that for an I and as long as you're IS they only die very rarely.
Otherwise Nova's with burst rays don't kill a K or I (at least not anywhere near fast) but they cripple it without much trouble if you tell them to attack subsystems. Again about 10-15 of them should suffice.
For the ships themselves Mk2 engines and thrusters are fine, the only thing you want Mk3 is the shield (PAR preferably, the faster recharge delay is worth it).
Should run you maybe 500-600k per ship so maybe 5-6 mil in total. Chimeras are a little more expensive but worth the money.
The throwaway missile swarm shouldn't run you more than 200k per ship at the upper end, you can actually get lower than that if you buy from the ALI wharf in Trinity Sanctum VII.
Anyone have any ideas of how to make this game difficult besides playing it blindfolded?
The Split Rattlesnake is a bit fragile (and I would immediately swap out the L turrets with Arg/Par Plasmas, but it powerful and fast. You can easily outmanuver Ks and Is and attack from a vulnerable quarter (the Ks from the top, Is I don't recall). The only downside is relatively short range guns, but you have 4 of them.
Terran destroyers have powerful LR main guns and shields, but I would swap out terran turrets for Argon Plasma/Flaks. The Syn is a monster, bristling with L Turrets and has 3 mains, but be sure to escort her as she has weak fighter defenses. The Osaka is more balanced. Terran ships are a bit slow but they can stop on a dime from travel drive use.
As for Teladi, I never used them as I don't like the turret placement, but I heard they were good for kiting.
The Argon Behemoth is a decent ship, it has the best S ship hangar bay of all Destoryers (4). Has good anti figher turret defenses and only 2 but well placed L turrets. Main guns are good. A good seige ship (though Terrans are better)
I have learned over time to crawl along the ship and destroy the turrets on a K pretty regularly without damage. The I is a little tougher but doable.
My last one was named Alexis and my current one is called Crystal :)
I use them for boarding SCA ships, however it is not very good at all for attacking escorts or reinforcements like P's. N's and M's in single fights are ok.
The HOP Ares heavy fighter is good in this role as well. It has 4 weapon slots, 3 engine slots and 3 shield slots, plus ~4700 hull. I usually put two blast mortars and 2 burst rays on them which makes short work of any K/I surface emplacement. Once everything is disabled on the K/I, I send in a fleet of other ships to finish it off.
You can also drop laser towers around the K/I. They will do damage and act as a decoy.

My Xenon invasion is now at an end after Terrans attacked two of their main attack points, destroyed another of their defense platforms and rampaged through the map killing any left overs.
A poster had mentioned this earlier here, but I saw it happen. Terrans had lost 2 defense platforms, one was at the Void, and then while my traders were being attacked and fleeing, everything changed. I hovered over the map and saw an Asgard first then more ships coming to the Void, killing all Xenos left and right. They even saved my Pelican from certain death.
Then the fleet kept going, I couldn't follow as I was in one of the missions for the Borons trying to defend the highway at Sanctuary of Darkness.
But by the time the mission was over, I found Xenon wrecks everywhere.
Now I see them again building up, the Split are fighting with them, trying to stop them from taking over another of their systems.
They still send raiders at HC and Flashpoint, so whatever the Terrans did wasn't fatal.
I am now finishing a third station to make more credits so I can afford more ships. I now have access to the Borons and trying to build Rep with Paranids HOP and the Pioneers. Argon is at 18, so a few more trades will get me to 20.
Then I will have access to more destroyers.
The xenon will not take Hatikvah's choice, but they will be a constant presence there, instead they will take over ZYA and FRF sectors, but not all of them, they will survive as islands in a sea of xenon.
Destroyers can be a bit difficult to employ properly as you learn the game, carriers and fighters are the easy way out of any situation.
Hmm i see in creative mode you could get allied with the xenon and set everyone else hostile, interesting.
