How do I see how much remaining cargo space my ship has?

I am very new to the game, still on my starter ship trying to figure things out.

I was shooting at some asteroids and some stuff fell out. Clicking on the item states it is an ore. But my ship can't seem to collect it. Pressing O does nothing, fly into it does nothing.

I don't know if my ship isn't designed to carry ore or my ship has no space. I can see my cargo under player info > inventory and that's it.

I am on my Kyd from Stranded. Sorry if my question seem very noob, I am struggling to figure things out.

There are three type of storage
Solid (ore and other mined solid)
Liquid (gas)
Container (everything else)

Ore can only be picked up by solid storage ship (mineral miners)

The other stuff like spacefly egg, are inventory item so they can be picked up by you just fine

I see, so those go onto the player rather than the ship right? Is there a limit how much of those I can carry?

They go into the player inventory which is a blackhole of infinity

Of course spacefly egg are illegal soooo avoid the cops!

for your own ship - go to "Ship Info" either via the enter menu or over the map. in the left most tab at the bottom there will be a bar representing your ship storage

Another quick way to see how much of what is in any of your ships' cargo holds is to go to map view, open Owned Property tab, then select any ship you own.

At the bottom of the map a box opens that shows that ship's shield, hull, and cargo/cargo space.
