I just started a new game and when I ever I leave my ship at a station and go to walk around, i teleport back to cockpit. Anyone seen this before? I tried reinstalling the game. I use no mods.

Shift + D does this on purpose ... are you pressing that combo on accident?

the typical FPS player has memorized WASD for directional movement and Shift for running.

@OP
assuming that you are one of many typical First Person Shooter Players... to run you have to double tap the W Key, Holding Shift will not do anything except teleporting you back to your Ship every time you want to do a step to the right.
As mentioned, the input is the default keyboard command for return to ship while not in the pilot's seat.

It is also a shortcut for docking with a targeted ship or station while piloting a ship or in the spacesuit.

You can find the input and remap it if you like. It's located in
Settings/Controls/General/ scroll down to MISC heading and "DOCK"
thankyou...
Interesting issue

I've seen this weird complaint a few times and I always wondered why. It's a typical WASD player thing eh?

I play first person games a fair bit, but always hated the WASD + shift keys, customising my own, still do, which I guess is why I never had this problem with X4.

believe me... its a WASD thing.

many FPS player exclusively use their left hand for directional movement, to switch weapons, etc... its just how ours brains are wired after a while.

in short, most don't even realize that they instinctively use their pinky to hold down shift when they plan to run a bit faster.

its a lot as if you have learned to write on your Keyboard while blindfolded.

For the record, I think running on stations is double-tap.
yeah it was definitely the wasd keys that got me. decades of using them. Just totally forgot after taking a break and coming back again. Thanks all for the help

Well, I use my left hand too, but I'm an Z,X and C user, with ctrl to crouch and sometimes shift to run (although now I use a side-mouse button to run).

WASD is too much all over the left side of the keyboard for me.
