Depends,
If ur using Potatos and a Toaster as a PC turn try run it on 800x600.
If ur using "proppah Hardware" and you run into the Engines Bottlenecks.....
Then not really. Maybe some "Instant Genocide" or "reduce Sector" mods, but i doubt.

X4 fps drops are caused by the Games Background Sim and the bad CPU usage.

Only real way to increase FPS is reducing background SIM.
Reduce Ships for example....few L trader instead lots of Ms.... Genocide VIG... stuff like that...

Or.... Dont Buy/use DLCs to keep sector and actor numbers low...
Mods / DLC usually "make it worse" by adding even more Content.

Better get used to framedrops on Top Hardware.
The Games Engine wont utilize much.:steamsad:
And after 5Y of WIP release i doubt its getting better anytime, most likely even worse with next DLC.

As Ref. using a I7-12700KF + Asus Strix 4070TI + 64GB ram + Asus z690-a + all 7.000M/S nvmes.
Game wont utilize more then 20% of my total CPU Power, barley 25-30% Ram and usually below 50% Vram and 25% GPU with all setting maxed + all DLC.
Still dropping as far down as 40FPS in "Late-game" with some Action on screen.

Depends on what is causing the FPS drop.

If you only have FPS issues around stations then there are a couple of mods or a config file edit that can help. If you don't want your game to be "modified" then just edit the config file.

edit ~/Documents/Egosoft/config.xml
<trafficdensity>0.5</trafficdensity>

Change 0.5 to something lower, I set my one to 0.25 and it helps a lot on larger stations. Just don't set it too low or police / criminals won't exist. I have my game set to 0.25 and has no effect on finding criminal traffic or police, for example during a shoot criminal traffic mission half a dozen of them can still exist all at once so can probably get away with lower if you need to.

The other civilian ships do not do anything other than decoration, but for whatever reason Egosoft programmed them in the game to have path finding and collision so they are all actual ships and hammer the CPU.

There is a mod that adds more game options that has this as a setting you can set inside the game. "Extra Game Options" by "SirNukes" which is on the Workshop and his github page.

There is also another mod that does a similar thing but different, "No Masstraffic", which removes all but the criminal and police, so that's the better option if you need a low number of ships around stations.

That's the only real thing that affects my computer with a Ryzen 2700.

On the GPU end you can disable fog in the normal settings, that really hammers the GPU in sectors like "Sanctuary of Darkness".

But if you have a low FPS even in the middle of empty space, then there's not much you can do.

This game is not very multi-threaded, so people saying it only uses 30% of their cpu... well the game can only use 30% if you have 8 cores because the other 6 are not used at all.

Yes, don't ever send 1,000 capital ships with over 10,000 other ships with them to do a job that less than 100 ships can do just as well.
