In this game there are significant differences between the AI in system (IS) and out of system (OOS). Miners don't work very well if you're close enough to watch them (or on board), unless you're flying it yourself you'll want to stay away from your miners, just let them get on with it.
Maybe i should lay down my whip and let them work. must admit i was watching them a lot, curious of how the Ai perform the task.
Poorly, most of the time... But better when OOS, mainly because the game simplifies the sector to make it "cheaper" (in system resources) to keep the simulation running.
You'll see them do really silly things if you watch them, in combat they're ok, usually, but when docking/undocking they might decide to fly through a station for example.
I define AI in computer games as Artificial Idiots, makes their shenanigans a lot more tolerable :P
Second contact does not have very high silicon. You would be better off mining silicon in Morning Star IV, Cardinals Redress or even Silent Witness I.
As someone else described it recently; you have to think in terms of the overall density of a resource. An ai miner will have problems if there isn't a good overall high density value.
If you really want to mine a low resource area than use a *repeat command* and target them to mine a specific area and *sell it* at a refinery or sector, but if you want to avoid a world of hurt then make it easy for them and mine a sector that has a good resource amount.
I'am at second contact VII, 2 star Silicon & Ore. And ice nearby .. as an old eve online player, it naturally attracts me :)
have to say that i struggle a little to understand the map infos.
Thanks again for your help
It is true they work better when they are simply left alone to get on with it. No one likes to have someone breathing down their neck when they are trying to do something.
Location is important
Certain sector have tons of dead asteroids and this nerf performance
The easiest way (I have found personally) to bring up resource info on each sector is to left mouse click it and press the info button.
