How to allocate resources to research at the Bosa Ta HQ?
So I'm trying this for the first time. It says basic research for teleportation needs 100 Adv electronics and 2000 energy cells.

I docked a ship with 100 adv electronics but the only place I can put it is in *build storage* but the research bar shows no indication that the 100 adv electronics is assigned to the research. I'm guessing there is somewhere else it needs to go....?

I haven't noticed that, I find Heretic's End to be a better spot for the PHQ than Teladi space by a long shot. Its in a more central location (I always found Grand Exchange to be a bit out of the way), in range of 3 major factions (more once the managers are 5 star) and no costs to buy plots because its a neutral sector.

Considering how important the PHQ is for research and module hacks (which save so much money in the long run) I'm not surprised they just give it to you. The mission chain to unlock it was fun the first time, after that nothing but a grind.

I like the new PHQ placement personally, although ironically the faction start I would like it most for is the one faction start that still has to do it the old way :steamfacepalm: But that is a lot of content and experience for new players that they completely miss out on now.

Is it a good idea to start adding solar panels ASAP?

I see that pretty much everything needs energy cells to build&research at the HQ, how many is a good starting amount? will just 1 be enough to get basic things moving or do I need more?

To begin with one or two solar panels. Depends how big you want your factory? I have 10 on my shipyards, but that's probably too many. I find it's better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

When planing big mega station, or build station enemies sector, it's better to had own builder, so you can control and ensure builder drone max number (a.I sometime do not had max builder drone) along fleet you control to keep your builder safe.

In early game and build small station, it's better to hire builder, but building large number of station, it's would be wise to had your own builder, there was time I do mix, I use my builder to do huge task or danger task to build large station, while for small or tiny station, I just hired a.i builder doing that small task here and there when my builder still too busy on more important task in past.

I need some help though with a relative quest. The mission where I have to get 3 ships to long-range scan.
I'm not sure how I get my 2 other ships to do a long range scan? I can see one way might be to get them to mimic the behaviour of commander but I don't know how to set myself as the commander. Would doing this work anyway?

THis is a scripted event. once all ships are in position you have to be in one of them and do the scan, the others will atuomaticaly do the same then.

I have all 3 ships in the circles as near to the centre as possible. I have my long Range Scan on but nothing is happening. The quest says *do the long range scan now*I have tried switching off and switching back on the long range scanner. I have waited for about 5 minutes for anything to happen but I don't think it's working.

The long range scanner needs to be manualy triggered.

you you activate the mode with shift+3 and then you press L (the key for using your secondary guns if you have remapped it) and hold L to charge it for a bit like 1 second and then you release the button and will see a blue wave from your ship that will scan all stuff in 200km range in 360° from your position. thats how the long range scan works.

if you charge it to long you will get a nasty failure sound.

I didn't realise the long range scan had to be activated like that. I thought it was just passive like the short range scanner. It's confusing cause there is a change in the light in the cockpit when you switch it on.

Yes those lights indicate which mode you are in. Orange is travel. Purple is short range scan. Blue is long range and white is SETA.

All part of a much improved UI compared to previous X games.

If you want confusing changing lights, try hitting shift+1,2,3,4 in rapid succession :P

If you confusing changing lights, try hitting shift+1,2,3,4 in rapid succession :P

Hee hee I only found that today. Less than 2% have that achievement. :)

Use your long range scanner often in sectors that you explore. you will find stations and gates much easier and it also reveals secrets like loot containers.
