How to allocate resources to research at the Bosa Ta HQ?
So I'm trying this for the first time. It says basic research for teleportation needs 100 Adv electronics and 2000 energy cells.

I docked a ship with 100 adv electronics but the only place I can put it is in *build storage* but the research bar shows no indication that the 100 adv electronics is assigned to the research. I'm guessing there is somewhere else it needs to go....?

You need to build your own storage. Both of those are container storage so build that first at your HQ although you'd be wise to build the others at some point. :)

Have you added storage to your PHQ? Research will require Container storage and some will require also solid storage (the ones that require Nividium).

If you think about it the builder (which I presume you must have hired) has their own storage on their massive ship so that is why you can transfer wares to build storage. Your HQ has no storage to begin with and once you do build some there will be another option to transfer the wares directly to the station and this is how research is supplied.

It's all very straightforward if you break it down. :)

I have no builder, and no it's not straightforward to a new player. I have a trade ship with the 100 adv electronics.

So I need a builder ship to start with to make container storage at the HQ before I can start research?

Yep. I think you can still order a ship to transfer wares to build storage without a builder? It will simply wait there until a builder arrives.

I think you can hire a builder for 50,000? Won't take long to build and needs little resources. Should be some in Argon Prime if the Xenon haven't mullered the sector. Or you could buy your own with minimum spec for 10 million? So many options!

Yes, it will stick around until all modules queued are built. Though you can add modules while its building to extend its stay.

On a side note, might want to add a solid storage as well, you'll need one for the later research.

The Build Storage belongs to the Station it self, it comes with the Station.
It is basically just a Stockpile for Construction Wares... like on every Construction SIte since Humanity (and Aliens) errect Buildings.

Though, OP still needs someone who knows how to make a Storage for the Station out of the stockpiled Resources... hence the Builder Ship.

Ah I think I've seen those stockpiles? I thought they were some king of weapon? They look a bit scary?

It seems like it's probably a good idea to just wait till I have 10 mil+ and buy a builder ship then it just becomes easier to learn the whole process.

I generally stick to hiring builders for the first few stations, having your own builder can be an advantage (they usually have more builder drones than the NPC ones), but it can only work on one station at a time. I usually have multiple stations under construction or being added to later in the game, so even when I have my own I still hire builders on a regular basis.

Those 10 mil creds are better spent on something that makes you more creds in my opinion, the builder won't make much money (nor save that much, you'd have to build 200 stations to break even at 10 mil). I'd only spend on a builder for myself if have the creds spare.

No thats a waste of your early game ressources. The few credits to hire the ship for construction is all you need. Don't let him confuse you he has a huge empire and forgot that its not an easy task to actualy get 10 million credits if you are starting fresh.

Thanks for the advice. Actually this is my second restart of the game and this time I built up multiple lucrative mining operations as soon as I could so I have quite a bit of passive income coming in and it won't take that long before I have 10 mil to spend on a builder ship.

I was also wanting to start building my own factories so i think this will be a good investment.

Since I really don't know what I'm doing or what resources I need to build each thing, having my own builder vessel seems considerably less stressful.

You should be able to hire a builder with no problems. 50,000 is a lot less than 10,00,000 and that's a basic builder which I would never have. Too fragile. I still hire them even though I own several. It's just quicker sometimes although I've had a couple get attacked and lost them and you don't know until you check the build progress and see it's all green, but not counting down lol.

And did I miss something? Who was rude? Certainly not me. A perfect gentleman ;)

This is the problem with the new "accelerated" PHQ method from Kingdom's end. It comes with a dock rather than using that as a way to walk new players through some basics of station building. It's also in a location now where it's more difficult (at least less frequent) to get AI ships to deliver what you need.

It would probably work a lot better for new players if the into for Kingdom's End didn't trigger until you had the PHQ and then get them to do the PHQ mission the old way, as painful as that would be for those of us who have done it a hundred times.
