XL vs L fabrication bay

Planning on buying 1 of those blueprint but can L ships can have their equipment changed at an XL shipyard? I'd rather buy the XL shipyard blueprint if it includes that functionality, I can produce XL ships and improve my existing fleet of L miners / traders.

Seeing L and XL fabrication bay at Terran Protectorate specifically.

Both ships yards can only repair its own sized ships.
XL allows you to build Asgard though.

Faction shipyards have both L and XL modules, so you can reequip any of these ships at them, as well as in Equipment Docks.

Edit: The L fabrication module is more useful in general, since with it you can build the largest mining and transport ships available in the game. With the revenue afforded by these ships, you can then quickly get the funds to buy the XL blueprint.

I'm not sure you can build L on XL, does it? I am petty sure I watch and build so many L, but XL yard do not build L, only L yard build L. Only XL build XL, not L or smaller?

Yeah, L only builds L, Xl only builds XL, same for repairs pretty sure. I would advise to go for the L fabrication bay, if purely because buying the XL one and even a single set of blueprints to make it worth using will cost you like twice or more credits than the L one would. L also has better ship selection for multiple roles.

Besides, once you buy just a single fabrication bay, and have a good economy going to supply it, it will start printing you money so fast you'll be able to afford all the other ones in no time. That's why I usually just go for the S/M one, it has a lot of utility for you as well with all the different ships you can make, and then let it print me money. And as far as I can tell the larger fabrication bays don't really make you money any faster anyway, since the ship cost is closely tied to how much materials you put into it anyway. You'll get roughly the same money making frigates out of all the materials it takes to make and outfit a single Asgard.

The L and XL Ship Production Cradles as well as their Maintenance counterparts can only service their respective Sizes.

L for L Ships, XL for XL Ships.

A Combination like the S/M Fabrication / Maintenance Bay does not exists.

In order to service and produce L and XL Ships on your Shipyard you have no other choice but to purchase both Prodution Modules.

Like other already have correctly pointed out, the L Cradle is of more use than the XL Cradle.
Yo can build your own L Miners and Freighters with it and will be able to afford the XL Cradle in no time.

The XL builds the Asgard and puts on the special turrets/engines/whatnot for the Erlking - otherwise, I don't think I would use them at all.

P.S. If you've got the Split DLC, I think there's a shipyard in Zyarth's Dominion that only services XL ships.

XL is needed for auxiliary ships which are fairly important.
