What is with you guys and racing minigames?
I've just deleted a game because I found myself roped into yet another racing minigame. That's 3 now. I don't like racing - I'm definitely not good at it. I already avoid an entire story mission because of racing BS and now I have to avoid whatever that gambling research mission is. *sigh* Could you guys please come up with something more fun than racing?

The gambling mission is indeed annoying, I have no idea how I successfully pass the test. Good thing about that one is it will auto pass you if you complete... I think 5 laps? Would have to double check. So yeah it is annoying but it can be slogged through without the pressure of pushing it, if you desire.

Edit: I'm also curious what the storyline mission is you avoided.

The only racing I'm aware of is the one for the initial engine mod research, but I haven't played the Avarice dlc.

The storyline in Avarice had a racing thing. The moment I was told I had to race in that, I quit.

Oh that was the one I was thinking of lol. That one is not a race at all, it is basically a fake race . You go meet up, you just hit travel mode in a straight line and then teleport to your second ship, travel to the finish line but the guy immediately teleports the entire ship to the finish line. You can finish the 'race' in your first or second ship - they take whichever one you finish with (sell it just before the transfer to the argon or something to get your money back :D)

That doesn't make it any better. lol. Actually, there's nothing about that entire DLC I like. If I could've refunded it, I would've. (Is it sad that I like the entirety of X Rebirth more than that DLC? lol)

The Avarice race is easy, fly straight and follow the instruction. The engine mod race is easy, fly straight to the marker. The gambling race is the only one worthy of being called a race and it auto-completes if you're patient enough.

If you really rage quit cos of that, well... your loss.

Yeah I rate it as one of the weaker DLCs (CoH and Split are good, Boron is questionable I think). I think if the pirates were a little more active or threatening, something like that, it'd be more interesting. Otherwise I dunno. At least they're patrolling in Hatikvah and fighting Xenon (and I guess fighting MIN some).

They love to put things the game engine is terrible at as missions.

For me it's anything to do with being in a space suit. the second you make me pop out of my ship to do something I'm immediately annoyed.

Racing? I've not been in one race in YEARS of playing the game!

How is it when someone has an issue with the game, they make it sound like that's ALL the game is about?

The race you do for the gambling just has you fly a circuit of hoops as fast as you can. It's probably fine if you are using HOTAS or joypad but for keyboard and mouse it's extremely difficult.

That doesn't mean it's not possible I'm pretty sure if you attempt to go round a few times and don't complete it within a specific time limit, it automatically "finish" the time trial and continues on in the plot
Gibbo Jun 4, 2023 @ 9:55am
I think if you have trouble with them you can cancel the mission, restart it and it will be easier? I know that worked a few years ago.

I quite like the races. Makes a change from pew pewing. Adds a bit of life to the X universe.

To be honest, the only real "racing minigame" is the engine mod research mission and it's more of a time trial.

The other 2 are fake and will complete regardless of how you perform.

The Avarice race you always lose and the gambling module circuit completes after the 5th lap, regardless of performance.

As long as it's option, not required, I'm not fan of racing, depend on design, but this game's race is just workable once player understand, find fastest travel mode on S ship, for reseaching Mod, other is fake race, just fly normal around to get inside each ring, that is, no timer limit and there is no trying to beat anything at all, just do fly lap, so it's not real race, so all good. But I do understand why people dislike race, and it's should not be required if they ever put something like that.
DaBa Jun 4, 2023 @ 12:30pm
None of the "races" in the game require you to be good at them, not sure what you're even frustrated about.

The engine research literally just requires you to bring a ship with enough travel speed and then fly in a straight line, job's done. That is not even racing. You fly in a straight line all the time in this game.

Tides of Avarice mission is not a race either, it's a scripted even. It's pretty obvious you cannot win it once you do it a single time. You do the mission like any other.

The casino mission does not require you to be good either, I completely butchered this mission as well since I brought a ship that had horrible steering and the game passed me on the third lap (which I am 100% sure was THE WORST one of my laps). The game literally takes pity on you if you're not good at it, is that not exactly what you want?

Besides, what about people who LIKE racing? How is their definition of fun less relevant than yours? If somebody hates station building, should they come here and complain they deleted the game just because they didn't like it, and tell the devs they should replace it with something better? Obviously not, that's a ridiculous proposition. I bet you every single person can find something in this game they do not like, and the normal reaction to such a thing is not uninstalling the game because they didn't like a single aspect of it, a normal reaction is to just not do a thing they don't like. It's a sandbox game... You cannot please everybody, so don't be such a drama queen.

And, dare I say, if you actually rage quit the whole game over something so insignificant, then you don't enjoy it much in the first place. See ya!

oh man that tides of avarice one is awful. I literally thought my game was bugged as it made me do it over AND over. xD
