transfer repair drones
one of my AI ships decided to fight a xenon K without the forward facing guns...because AI...naturally the K tore up all his shields and engines and is now stuck. the 3 other destroyers i have next to him all have repair drones but he has none. is there a way to speed up the repair of his engines or transfer some of our drones to him? right now hes dead in the water and we are just sitting here in xenon space knocking out Ks that approach us.

You should be able to transfer drones from one L ship to that ship, it’s under transfer wares I think. You may have to go OOS quickly once they’re trying to get in position - I had to do it once with an Osaka and a dead in the water Behemoth I captured. The Osaka came close to orientating with it in-system but struggled to trade, I think because the behemoth had dead engines. If I remember right going OOS it fixed that.

for this transfer to work both ships need to be able to move on their own (even if its just barely) and at least one of them needs cargo drones.

I've tried this recently and managed to transfer repair drones as you suggest, but then they didn't activate and the ship still took a long time to repair its basic functions.

they will activate once the current repair job is completed and they switch to another subsystem.

longterm you should focus onto skilled service crews however, they are simply faster when it comes to repairs than a et of drones would be.

Cool!

I have been wondering the same as I've wanted to transfer repair drones to newly boarded destroyers.

Many thanks for the helpful info! :steamhappy:

@eMYNOCK are you sure, that both ships need to be able to move? I've just boarded a Barbarossa and it was unable to move. I called a Pelican to get some repair drones and it perfectly* positioned itself in front of the Barbarossa and used its cargo drones to transport the repair drones. Worked like a charm with just the supplier being able to move.

* just one minor detail: I had to save and reload, because on the first attempt, the Pelican stopped somewhere and was unable to complete the approach. But that just happens so many times in the game (e.g. also with boarding pods VERY frequently, that just stop moving and never finishing the approach stage), that you get used to save&load or just teleport OOS to get the job done. But I am sure this will be fixed, soon, right? ;-)

Like @UniverseE said, they don't have to both bring able to move. I transferred repair drones with a frigate and the disabled destroyer was able to send out its own cargo drones to pick up the repair drones dumped by the frigate.

@OP, like @eMYNOCK said, use crews to repair. Even if you have fresh recruits, it'll just take a long long time, but eventually it'll work. At least you are able to mass transfer crews through the menus.

I also can't confirm if it works, but once or twice when I was desperate, I went out in spacesuit and manually repair the engines until the engines fires in my face like sausages take-off scene in Hot Shots, of course, I survived where sausages did not. Maybe it was the repair laser, maybe the crews just coincidentally got the engine repaired while I was doing the hard and dirty job.
