Just be sure to reel them in to near a station before killing them or else you won't get rep.
Once at -9 and allowed to dock, I purchased a few miners from the Pioneers and sent them into Terran sectors to automine. Just make sure what you're mining is in demand in whatever sector you choose. Let that go for a while and your rep will passively increase as you do other stuff and your miners sell to stations. You can pretty much ignore them since they're pretty safe in those sectors. I chose one of the sub-sectors in Saturn. A couple of missions helps too when available.
