Repeat orders
Is it useful? Looks like some swear by it but the orders themselves are very limited, at least for 2 star pilots. The only one I often use is dock at my location, which I never repeat. Is there a minimum skill level for pilots to make use of it?

It's efficient way to do plenty of things. Repeat attack in area instead of patrol works better. Repeat traders are more reliable than trader/station AI. Miners actually stay where you want with repeat orders.

It's just the micromanagement hell that prevents me personally from using them except in very few places.

Repeat - collect drops
at a xenon gate your fleet or station guards is just free money and materials for mods

Repeat buy and sell is a goldmine. I find there is always a silicon or refined metals selling station at rock bottom prices. Those 2 have a huge disparity between min and max price so huge profitssss.
Set buy from there, then pick a nearby good buyer and sell to there BUT wait, theres more.... go to the behaviour tab of that ship and + the sell command. You can add more stations so if the buyers price falls too low, it will cycle through other buyers you list (you can do this with the sellers too) Combine with a local miner feeding that refinery and you are laughing. You can also repeat command: mine a location, sell to specific factory, so if your pilot isnt 3star and cant advanced automine to sell outside the mined system, you can set up the instruction to do this anyway.

I use it to supply stations with energy cells from my one big solar power plant. It simplifies things, ensures the supply is always at 100% and it frees up the automatic traders to do other stuff.

Please can they allow a one off order (eg repair).
maybe there should be a tab in the ships that is ships with repeat orders, as they are not owned by a station.

I don’t have any pilots trained enough to execute repeat orders. How can I raise it past one star so I see some options. I can only choose repeat orders without orders, which doesn’t make any sense.

you give the repeat orders behaviour. It wipes existing orders. You then give it new orders which are repeated...
If you want to raise pilot rank you use seminars which you find at traders.
They are so cheap that it is worth buying them when you find them after you start getting money.
or just take a 1-2 * from a miner and promote a crewman.

Buy a cheap "Basic Pilot Seminar" and a cheap "One Star Pilot Seminar" from station traders. Right click your pilot and give them the training.
Bingo...you have a two, almost three star pilot.

When you figure out that you can use repeat orders for the SYSTEM and not just for the station or ship, that is when you start thinking about macro programming :)
You don't have to repeat order buy from this solar planta nd buy from this solar plant and buy from that and then repeat sell to all other 10 stations.
Just BUY IN SECTOR for ecells and SELL IN SECTOR for ecells.
You get far after you find that out.

I have lots of 3-4 star pilots. I was referring to the repeat orders skill, which always seems to stay at 1 star. How do know new orders get repeated? There's no indication it's on or off. Issuing new orders is the same whether you entered repeat orders or simply removed all orders and assignment. There is no difference I can see. Every other order has one or more tags following the order except repeat orders. That's why I was thinking my skill level isn't high enough with one star under repeat orders. Is this true? or something else?
trooperrob May 23, 2023 @ 12:32pm
no, for me it has a 1. and a 2. beside the orders with a star. It then indicates which one it is doing, and tells you if it can't.

set it to repeat orders then close. Go back in, orders should be empty. Order it to buy / (edit) - then order it to sell something.
Then just let it go.
the 1 * is just a min requirement to use that command.
it will repeat all the commands. skipping one if it can't do it.

The author of the original post seems to be confused of how to use "repeat orders" and what it does.

After setting this behavior for a ship (the 1-star is simply a requirement for its captain), not forgetting to click "confirm", any order you give will be added to the ship's list which will be performed sequentially until the list is exhausted. At this point, the ship will start again from the top. If, for some reason, the ship can't perform some order of the list, it will skip to the next.

It's a very useful behavior; for instance, with it you can configure a ship to buy Energy Cells in Mercury where it's dirt cheap and sell it in Pluto where it's always in high demand, and it will do it repeatedly without you having to give any more commands.

Its also great for Conitnuing bulk sales from your Stations.
Station trader behaviour favours "max price" above "amount of goods sold" when looking for Trades.
This leads to your M/L ships often going on tours with only 10-15% of their cargo storage filled as the Stations with the highest prices usually also have quite low demand.

If you have a reliable production and you want to max out sales its best to send a Trader with repeat orders to a Station with really High demand to sell ALL your goods and not just tiny marges for some small extra cash.

I found the problem, and it’s probably mod related instead of skill level: the start queue is greyed out when repeat orders are selected. Could there be any other causes?
trooperrob May 24, 2023 @ 5:12am
it can be a little confusing.
try selecting repeat orders, then confirm and leave it. reselect the ship, go to that screen. It should say repeat orders, with an empty queue. Now put the orders you want in. If that fails. then possibly mods?
edit best uses I think: repeat moving / selling / mining wares.
collect wares , move away from police .

That's interesting. If I apply repeat orders then both orders and start queue are disabled. In order to start queue I need to issue an order. So it does appear to be the randomxxxx mod series. The author must have had a reason for doing so, but I don't know why they just didn't just disable repeat orders in the first place to avoid confusion. I will leave that suggestion on their page.
