Need help setting up a local trade route.
I need some help with a local trade route please.

In "The Reach" I placed two Satellites. One by a Ore Refinery and one by a Hull Part factory.

I bought a Mercury Vanguard, gave it a Captain. I give it this order.

Set Default Behavior: Local Auto Trade
Ware: Refined Metal
Anchor Space: The Reach

However it tells me "No trades found in the allowed sector"
The Refinery is well supplied and the Hull Part Factory needs the Refined Metals.

Anyone got any idea why it is doing this?

It's been reported that the local autotrade behavior is bugged.

But, in your situation, you can use "repeat orders" in its place (if your captain is not 1-star, you can buy a seminar in any station and use it to train him).

Will be mostly guess work without screenshots or a save. But if I had to guess is that either the price is not good or the trade offers are not there (already reserved).

If you want specific trade between these two stations (or more) you can use the repeat order behaviour. Once you set the behaviour you can (with your trading ship selected) RMB on the Refinery and select trade With. The next window allows you to define how much you want to fill cargo (for only one ware runs set to max) and the maximum buying price, then confirm the order.

Next RMB on the Hull Parts factory and do the same but set how much the ship should retain (unless you want to spread the sell set to none) and the minimum price it should sell the ware for. After conforming your ship will go back and forth for all eternity.

Should there not be any trades that fit the settings it will just skip them on loop until the settings fit again.

This is not accurate, at least I'm not aware of any bugs, often its people having a wrong understanding on how it works, but I'm happy to look into any specific example with a save for the bugged version.

Local auto trade is definitely prone to being a bit skittish in places where there are multiple buy/sell places. Iv'e had several occasions where the trader will just go round in circles on the spot as if stuck in a loop and can't decide where to go.

In my experience it's much better to set up a repeat function as Conrado says. Designating where to go to buy and sell.

Local Autotrade is bugged in current version, bug has been reported by dozen players on ufficial forum, Egosoft devs examinated vanilla save files provided and aknowledged the bug, a fix is incoming in one of the next hotfix.

Also remember that trades using the repeat orders behavior can buy from and sell to entire sectors, not just stations if you just assign the buy/sell order in open space. That is VERY handy for many things like miners too.

When you setup repeating trade orders make sure you pay attention to the quantity and pricing you set as that can sometimes tie them up waiting for an order that falls within your parameters.

No, because in X4 I never use autotraders.

It is far, far better to set up a trade station. This is very cheap to do, all you need is a dock and some container storage on top of your freighter. The big advantages of doing this are:

1. Since you can easily install a 2* manager from the get go your traders will operate in a two sector radius immediately.

2. Trade station managers level up very fast so you will get to a four sector radius of operations quickly and a full five sectors not too long after that.

3. You can be much more specific about exactly what prices you want to buy and sell at for each ware you want to trade in.

4. As your manager levels up and more and more customers come within range you can just add more freighters and all of them can be managed together under one station account/configuration.

You get all this for the entry level price of a dock and small container storage module, which is roughly speaking about the same price as one M class freighter. It's a no brainer.

Please enlighten us how it's "supposed" to work then. Because it sure as ♥♥♥♥ doesn't buy low and sell high within 1 system

I've spent 15 hours trying to do this exact thing. The xenon are eating the galaxy & I'm trying to work out how to move my hull parts to the factories being built around Argon space, but it's just not possible. I gave up on autotrade immediately as it seems to do nothing & also I'm less concerned with profit & more with productivity, but repeat orders are ♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm so angry I'm about to throw my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC through the window. I can get them to take refined metals from the couple of refineries to the three hull parts factories, but trying to get my other freighters to take the hull parts to whatever they call the building zones just isn't possible. Everything is greyed out. I hate this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Give us a few more details about your predicament and we may be able to suggest a solution for you.
