Shields TER (theory boron but yeah....)
Turrets depends.
Plasma PAR
Flak ARG
Beamz TER
Boronships.... are meh....
Im actually playing a Herald campaign, 150 Hrs in the Savegame and damnit i love the Guppy light carrier.
Tons of M turrets, respectable hull/shield, nice speed...
Great ship.
Rest is medioce at best
Totally on par with ARG-TEL-PAR, not su much with TER + SPL
Main prob is actually the AI.
Borons are supposed to use tons of fighters,
said fighters have huge shields but are very slow.
This means the AI will boost all the time wich..... depletes their sweet shields.....
Its stupid AF but my Guppy is carrying Cimeras ATM....
Mako+Bara are.... no not with the perma boost from AI....
They also got a fun Slow-beam wich is quite good for pirating but id take a PAR plasma/TER Beam above those slowguns at any given time...
Hydra is fun as playership tho...
But ine question why paranid engines for travel? Every forum post I've read people use terran ones and say terran engines on large ships is best?
I'm all about speed for my traders so I want my large trade ships to be as fast as possible.
Engines: ARG/SPL (Depends on the role of the ship, ARG for M, L and XL Civilian ships. ARG for L and XL Capital ships. SPL for S and M Combat ships.
Shields: TEL/TER (TEL for S Fighters, TER for everything else)
Turrets: TER/ARG/SPL (TER Beams, ARG Flak, Split Plasma)
For me, It has been invaluable to have better cruise speeds than acceleration in travel mode. Just a few hours ago I took over an Osaka I have defending a gate because a K got into "death from above" position and was able to get out of the K's range without losing all my shields simply thrusting away because that Osaka goes over 150 m/s.
I really enjoy the tactics and the different playstyle from borons, they are really strong if you like to play with fighter swarms.
All factions have strenghts, if you mix them you are absolutely OP in this game.
Engines:
S and M civilian ship: Argon (fastest travel drive)
L and XL civilian ship: Terran (fastest acceleration and spool up)
S and M combat ship: Split (base speed) Terran (boost drainage)
L and XL combat ship: Terran
Shields:
S ship: Paranid (fastest recharge)
M ship: Terran
L and XL ship: Terran
Turrets depend on ship really
5.0 didn't add new equipment
6.0 Boron equipment is exclusive to Boron ships so it doesn't matter when doing comparisons of equipment only

It's depend on your world map, if xenon is winning, you better off use mega shipyard, if xenon isn't winning, I guess you could set up factory here and there without need mega shipyard as your transport is much safer.
I think Engine Terran is best for XL/L, while SPL for S and M Combat ships but again I do use combat engine for my miner as well to flee better.
Shields, Terran, if not due you are not role playing Terran then I guess it's argon or tel.
M Turret I guess Terran Bolts for friendly fire, if you don't care about friendly fire, it's m argon flak.
L Turret, I guess Plasma PAR or Arg Par if you fighting L/XL ship.
If S/M, then Terran L pulse or bolt if few L Turret, if many L Turret then Terran Beam, but it's might not go well in OOS but great IS, Bolt is balanced, if not, I'm not sure what is best commonwealth gun, most would use plasma for L.
