You don't, they do that themselves. It may not look like they are but you won't notice any of them dying. Obviously it would be impossible to mine The Void for example if the miners died to the hazzards so they don't. The Hazzards are there to kill you, not your miners.

I just had 8 miners die at the same time in The Void, mysteriously, with all the gates envelloped in laser towers, with patrols flying around the system, no xenons or Khaaks

I haven't played for 18 months, I'm just starting a new game for Kingdon's End now, but in 1050 hours I've played so far I have had many, many miners operating happily in The Void for entire games.

It could be Egosoft have decided to make The Void no longer available for mining recently but I would doubt it.

I just had abunch of resource probing scouts die once I went IS to the void. I think the miners are only taking damage in system, hence how they all died at once. Will just teleport over it

Yeah I recall thinking it might be an in system vs out of system thing but over my games I've spent plenty of time doing stuff myself in the void for one reason or another, searching for Kha'ak bases for example, and it was very clear that this did not cause all my miners there to die so I have dismissed this theory.

Update: So it is environmental hazards, I just watched one die with my own eyes OOS. My miners have L MK.2 TER shields and are still dying. Should I just pull out? Or would MK. 3 upgrade stop them from dying?

I lose traders in the void constantly because there is a station directly below the hazard zone and to land on it they have to go through the zone by default. Sometimes landing is OK but taking off ALWAYS resulted in explosion. I had to mark it a no go.

edit: even piloting myself resulted in extreme hull damage and almost destruction.

The Void has radiation in the asteroid zones (the source is those green rocks), and it can kill even L ships if they don't have a high enough shield regen rate. The terran L miner has only 1 shield generator, and so is very vulnerable. I personally use Teladi Cranes for their 3 shield generators (as well as its vast cargo capacity) and they do just fine.

Edit: fun video:

You need 500 shield regen per second to tank the hazards in The Void. Any L miner with 2 or more shields can get there pretty easily.

Alternatively give them hazard damage reduction mods.

I upgraded my TER miners to have Mk. 3 shields and have not lost one since... Or at least the damage rate is low enough that they can leave before dying, as it is only barely below 500 mw

If you want to be on the safer side, you can also install a green mod to boost shield regen, specially if your ships are mining ore/silicon since this sector is quite prone to Khaak raids.

If you need to mine in The Void or a place with hazards, you must modify the chassis to reduce or remove environmental damage.

If you simply want the miners to avoid going into enemy sectors or sectors with hazards, there is an option for that in the Global Orders section of your player menu.

Apparently, a whole fleet of Khaks cannot out-DPS the TER Mk.3 shield regen. They kept invading from a hive in Antigone Memorial

Even if your miner is in the radiation zone when it's attacked? I dunno...

Well, in the radiation zone, it just takes damage without regenerating, but the radiation is negated. So they'd still die without outside help
