traders wont trade
aight so get this. i got a magpie, and i go into behaviors and autotrade hull parts.
their is a hull part factory and a wharf just a little down the highway from in that is low on hull parts so i set the magpie to autotrade which then proceeds to tell me their are no trade offfers in system and just sits their.

i know for a fact their are trade offers because im building ships at said wharf and they cant build cause their low on hull parts and i can do the trade manually aswell. This isnt just this incident. anytime i use the autotrade function the ai refuses to trade in every system. energy cells, medical supplies, etc. refuse.

ive got the stations discovered, triple checked most of the stations and verified they did in fact need what the ship was supposed to be autotrading and verified their was in fact a station supplieng said product in same system.

am i missing something?

Basic trade script buys below average and sells above average to guarantee profit. Average price of Hull Parts is 209. Are they being sold below that price and bought above it?

First autotrade simply doesn't work. Or only, if it can buy stuff for free, like from your own stations.

it was a new custom budgeted game i started with a few hundred mil so im assuming the hull parts cost more then they could sell them for, but that must mean that applies to almost every product at the start of the game, since i had like 20 magpies trading in different system different wares depending on the said system and they were all the same

There are systems, where you can buy wares at min price and resell at max price, and still they refuse those trades.

It's broken af.

My station was buing EC from my other station with owned trader ships and all was ok. But at some point trader ships stoped doing that. That was the last script bug (from many) after I deleted the game. Egosoft cannot fix traders several years, but prefer draw more and more ships. The game is beautifull, but it's core is broken, Splits still have no economic and slowly die against xenon attacks. It devs don't love their game, why should I?

Alright I went ahead and set up a local autotrader to test out.

Refined metals: Buying 192 increased to 201
Refined metals: Selling 149 decreased to 138
Period observed: 15+ minutes

Average price is 148 so it should have started working once it dropped below 148 but it didn't.

Can confirm, local AutoTrade script is broke.

The pilot I used was somewhere between 1 and 2. I wasn't testing advanced autotrader, I was testing local autotrader so there is no need to use a high star pilot.

Trading Extension is mandatory software on traders. So yes, I was attempting do do a trade with a trader and not a combat ship.

just out of curiosity i found someone elses vanilla savegame online and tried it out. their local autotrade wasnt working, but when it came to the advanced autotrade it worked like a charm and had no issues 3-4+ hours in. the traders did what they were told to do

so the local autotrade is the only one that needs work

does anyone know how to get a pilots level up enough to get the advanced autotrade without using local autotrade?

ive tried manually ordering them to do various trades, but havent noticed them getting any experience in the trade skill

I use 'Fill Demand' rather than "Local Autotrade."

It allows you to use a list of wares rather than one and allows a sector distance of 3, iirc. For example, I set my anchor space as Heretics End, populate the trader's list with food rations, medical supplies, water, wheat and spices. With the surrounding sectors properly seeded with satellites to keep trade prices up to date. (you are doing that, right?) I've found the traders will merrily do the rounds with a hold full of "X" and empty its hold at one or more stations. Then wash, rinse, repeat. Note, the satellites at the stations buying and selling the wares listed are pretty vital. At least until you can afford trade subscriptions for the respective factions.
