Water in Avarice

Getting caught while trading water in the Avarice system is bogus.

Every other faction actually needs to have a ship scan you and catch you, and they can't just make the goods disappear. But in Avarice, you randomly get caught while you try to sell the water, and then it just ceases to exist. No choice to refuse to drop the cargo, no chance to fight or run. Just RNG rubbish. As if that's not bad enough, the amount of rep you lose with VIG is WAAAAY out of hand.

Does anyone know of a mod that disables this trash so that smuggling food and water to the Riptide Rakers works the same as smuggling anything else, anywhere else?

You mean the Raven? No, it doesn't. I tried. It lets you smuggle Spaceweed and protects you from normal detection, but it doesn't help with this scripted-catch-you crap.

Have you tried the Mirage modification? I tried it with several water smuggling run, and I think it worked.

Where is this happening? I've only seen this behavior when my ship is right next to a station, which I believe means that it might be getting caught by the Station's Mass Traffic police ships and they operate outside of normal faction logic. Hence bypassing the normal checks.

AFAIK there's a small fixed % chance of getting caught whenever you sell any illegal ware, not just in Avarice.

That, the extra set-up of acquiring black markets, and the fact that they just aren't worth all that much, means I rarely bother to trade any. Smuggling, like many things in this game, technically exists but is woefully underdeveloped.

Carry your ships in the hold of another ship. Capture a builder ship that holds a bunch of m ships and even s ships and you can have tons of water/food per trip. Maybe 8-10 L ship trips worth per run.

Read the post RIGHT above yours. It's the same thing. The Raven just comes pre-equipped with that, or maybe the 'Shroud' g3 mod.

AFAIK the Shroud only reduce radar visibility of your ship, it is not a 100% undetectable guarantee. If it has Mirage installed, then a bug report to the official forum may have things fixed in next patches.

Oh, you're partly right. I got them mixed up in my head. Mirage IS the g3 one that hides illegal cargo, and it IS the one the Raven comes pre-equipped with, it had just been awhile since I did the pirate plot. The raven doesn't do anything any ship with the Mirage mod can't do, and I remember getting my water vanished on me while I flew the Raven last time I had it besdies.

It's really weird If the water cargo disappeared when you fly Raven by yourself, maybe you can try to reproduce it and report to dev. I haven't done the criminal storyline in current playthrough, so I will set a constant water smuggling courier to Avarice with Mirage installed and see will it be caught by VIG after several days of operation.

Ugh, I'd have to get the raven again to do that, and I REALLY don't like that plot (damn tedious spacewalk crap). I definitely have done it with ships that had the Mirage mod, only to lose the cargo and, worse, go back to war with VIG. =x

Oh and let's not forget that the Raven really doesn't carry enough cargo to make me feel like I'm helping the Riptide Rakers significantly.
