I have been gaming sent, the late 1980's. Then got my first PC in the 90's, now have my 5th build PC, and been gaming average 18 hours a day, of course I am retired (66 Old), so no Idiot. But this game is a pain, to learn. Even played Eve on-line, for 13 years, was very easy to learn. There not much out there o YouTube, to help with the learning, must be to new.
I bought mining ship to the work for me,, and was hoping to get more ships to do the work.
But, everything is in different places than you're probably expecting and most things are probably also backwards from what you expect.
For example, you can't assign your ships to somebody else's stations or ships except for very basic things, like "follow."
Not all commands are given the same way either, just to keep you on your toes. You have the commands you can see when just clicking on the map with any of your ships selected, then you have the default orders, and the defend/trade for/etc.. commander. And then there is "repeat commands" which you actually have to set as the default behavior (I know, right?) before issuing the commands to repeat.
The good news is, once you do get used to it you'll have a lot of fun trying to sort out how to do it better. There are some decent guides and YouTube videos, just try to avoid any that are older than 2022 and if you don't want to spoil any of the discovery of the game for you, try stick to ones that are very specific like "how to set-up an auto miner" or something similar.
To make a miner work for you, all you need to do is click on the ship, either on the map on in the property list on the map screen, then open the Info panel. The Info panel for the ship has a number of interesting tabs, but the one you want is called Behavior. Go down to the very bottom section of that tab called “Default Behavior”. Choose AutoMine (which has no skill requirement, so the ship’s captain doesn’t need any stars at all). Pick a material for them to mine and a sector to mine it in, then click confirm. Done.

This worked ,, ships is off and mining,, awesome,,, But next question, what is best ore (item) to mine,, I told it ore, but Ice and 2 others were also there to mine?
Be aware that watching them mine is contraindicated; if you’re not watching, the game doesn’t bother to do collision testing with the asteroids meaning the work goes faster.
What do you dislike the most?
Game over.
The ui is not very intuitive but play around with it and it will come together in time. Stick to basic functions like can be found in behaviours tab for now. Plunk down some satellites and resource probes. Slowly build up. There are few timers so you can take your time and explore at your own pace, kind of like Skyrim in space.
