Player lead fleets
Is this yet a thing? Or should I keep this game off my HD? I DESPISE not being able to fly my OWN flagship leading my fleets. Last I tried, my fleet of 7 capships was spread across SEVERAL sectors.

They do well to keep up. Depends on the speed of the ship and class. If ship A is alot faster than Ship B it falls behind. But as soon as your out of system they speed speed up. If you are piloting and they get behind wait at the gate for them to catch up as soon as they jump through.

In a fleet i let the slowest ship take the lead, so all the others can keep up.
Just the problem is, the slow ships are exactly that, SLOW... so it take ages, thus i never fly my fleet, and let them travel OOS, and just teleport to it when i need to be at the fleet.

While OOS they tend to keep nicely close together, on long travels through several Sectors.
But when i control the ship, i tend to lose them and they start to lag behind.

I got 2 Osaka's, and Skid and a Honshu with a bunch of S/M support ships, and don't have reallly much issues keeping them together, as long i don't control the fleet myself.
Since the Honshu is the slowest ship, it leads the fleet.

Also works when i'm still on board, just not controlling the ship by myself. that the most important thing.. But alas, flying Carriers ain't much fun anyways.

thanks for the answers, I usually keep my flag as one that is outpaced by its escorts, but was always getting irritated at, for instance, I'd have them all going to a battle and I'd get there and by the time the rest of the fleet catches up the battle is almost over, either the enemy dead or my flagship, regardless of whether I use SC or slo-mode

Dock a wing and launch them when a ambush battle starts, otherwise just slow up in the next system.

My guess is the game constantly tries to redirect fleet wings when you are flying and that every little movement you make throws off them off a bit and they have to recalculate. This being much more noticeable with large ships following than M or S. Those two tend to keep up pretty well. L ships and above lag behind massively or do not like to stay in formation. It probably has to do with them having to respond constantly to your flying compared to a fleet commander that is just instantly told the destination.

I suspect that the orders that are left in the queue when you take over the lead ship might be responsible for the subordinates lingering behind.

Try clearing this queue and see if their behavior improves.

when I fly, I have the Flag's default orders as Hold, the default, and the Fleet's as whatever their role is, ie Defend. Will double check that though. Also, with the recalculating movement, I can be going in a straight line using Travel, and they wont kick off even after I am over 200km away.... and even after i drop from travel to see if they need to catch up they just sit there like they have no orders.
