What is the point of XL auxiliary ship?

Does XL auxiliary ship have any special ability? It seems a weakened carrier with bigger drone capacity. Is that all?

It can repair and rearm your ships, it's basically a mobile repair station.

They can repair any ship in the game. Anywhere, anytime and any size. S size ships all the way up to XL. For a "mercenary" making it big play through, acquiring one makes all of your future repairs free and fast. Which is a major reduction in costs of operation.

Not only does it repair any type of ship, with the appropriate blueprints it can also restock your ships with missiles, laser towers and other consumables, as well as reequip ships to some extent. This ability offers major savings and also opens up a lot of tactical possibilities for your fleets, such as torpedo squadrons.

They also give you free software upgrades for ships too if you are trying to save a few bucks lol :) But yeah, they're basically mini-floating equipment docks. They're awesome and worth having 1 in every big fleet.

The AUX ship can repair any ship (Other than itself so get an Aux ship for your Aux ship!). And if you set rearm to atleast LOW, then ships in the same fleet (Assuming the role is set to supply fleet, or same sector if ithe AUX is set to repair sector) will go and repair if they are idle and need repairing. I.e, if you have a bunch of ships at gate guarding duty they will auto-repair when they are idle if they need too.

I assumed it can only repair S and M ships (ships that can dock), how does it repair L and XL? Remotely with drones? If remote drone repair is a thing, logically other ships should be able to do so too.

Btw, if you want to save money, build your own wharf or shipyards, price difference between building your own ship and buying from faction is about 4,5 times.

L and XL dock at the front of the supply ship like it was a pier.
