EDIT: Typo
Otherwise things like putting TER shields and ARG flak on your paranid destroyers becomes a logistical nightmare.
Also if you own the shipyard you can install and reroll mods without paying credits.
You can also set it to closed loop economy to simplify the logistics.
It's much easier than trying to keep an NPC shipyard supplied with advanced electronics, weapon components and so on.
Having your own shipyard is also necessary to build Syns.
Then you only need to buy the ship you want with absolutely minimum equipments which will cost only a few million credits and not much ressources so you don't haveto wait for the shipyard to get the ressources.
Then you can equip the ship at your maintenance bay.
some of the ressources are also very easy to produce for the equipments.
you don't need a huge empire for that or many stations.
