There are a couple things to keep in mind, though. It will set your reputation with at least some other factions to -10 or -15, I think. That isn't a huge deal to repair, but it does take a little work killing enemies in their territories, running missions for them, etc. It also means you won't be able to trade with them until you repair that rep a little.
The Terran economy is also simpler than most other factions. That can be a good thing while you get a feel for the game, but just keep in mind the other faction economies are a bit more complex.
I think all that info is correct - someone will correct me if it is not.
If you're not worried about guidance, then any start that sounds fun will do just fine.
But you can do anything with everyone.
Yeah, there are some concern over the Split start thou.
My current start in avarice as the stranded. It had been in play since last august. It's purely just because of the character model I start this play.
Terran is imo easiest to start. The pioneer one would be my go if want station building, cadet if more free roam. They have good ships/wep/eng/shields, that you dont have access to at start with other races. In the end, you gonna have access to all story quests. So you not limited to chose one start.
- No pirating within their sector
- Easy Economy
- Good Sectors for mining (Gaia+Segaris/Oort/Asteroid Belt)
- Less Blueprints to steal
- Extremly ressource hungry => mining profitssssss
But their civilian ships are painfully slow -.-
1. Pick the Emergence start. It will guide you toward a gate in Heretic's End.
2. You'll be contacted by a weird, blue alien that has a station near the gate. Land there and talk to him. He'll hand over ownership of the station to you.
3. Save your game.
4. Start a new game. This time, pick Accomplished Scientist. (It's normally locked until you get that station, but you just had it handed over to you.)
5. Now you begin with the same station (in a different location), a better ship, more money, and more sectors already known to you!
If you want to get back to that same story, go to "Morning Star III," which is a dark blue sector in the upper left of your map. The deep-voiced alien will contact you again and ask you to come to the same gate.
I can't tell if this works, though. For all I know, new players won't be handed the station in Emergence. Or maybe Accomplished Scientist is no longer locked?
I would say the best start is the one that fits your RP best, Terran start can be hard as you have bad relations with everyone but in reality you start in a secured area where you can play without having to fear any pirates, xenons or whatever, it also gives you acces to a plot that is easy to do and will get you some great rewards, some of the best ships in the game.
And you can make some of the most profitable stations, and Terrans will buy massive amounts of minerals.
The other starts are all kinda the same, the starting ship doesn't matter specially for a new player, at the end of the day you will use it for exploring, getting used to the game and doing missions.
Once you figure out how to make money you'll find it very easy to get the best ship you need for your playstyle and start expanding.
