Save game compression

Was the savegame compression option removed? If so, how should we edit saves now? (Tried just recompressing the arquive, but it didn't work)

I mean it a simple save compression?
you extract it and then you edit and then done.

Load the save in 7zip. That'll decompress basically anything.

Yes it was. this is from the full patch notes from Egosoft:

Removed option to turn off save compression (note: with recent improvements to saving this option is no longer advisable for normal users but remains available to modders in a different form).

thanks, forgot that 7zip can work with multiple formats lol
although messing with the save folder almost crashed the explore 2 times

This ruined the game for me. I would rename the ships prefix to SEL-414 or BAD-666 for example. Sad, very sad.

Just manually decrompress it in the savegame folder.

OMG i jusst hit the auto load , and it didnt even ask if i was sure wtf. im soooo pssst. I was looking for the button that turns off the coloured direction circles in build mode, i have no idea how they got on in the first place.

Descompress it, make the changes and compress the modified file using 7z in the gzip format

After compressing the file, is anyone having trouble loading the game? Mine freezes while loading then goes back to the main menu.

i hope you followed proper procedure and made a backup of the affected save.
what you describe basically indicates that you, apologies, messed up the formating somehow.

because i have no way to actually track down the error that may have occured inside that save, the only thing i can suggest to revert back to the original... quadruple check that you don't breake the file structure and go at it again.

(you don't have to repack the file by the way.. the game still can perfectly fine read the xml and will simply save it as a gz next time you do a normal save cycle)

damn it's been almost a year since then lol but as far as I remember, and with the info that was available at the time, it did work
