regarding the miners: judging by the autopilot its simply that the ship tries to flee but takes to long to move away from obstacles. combined with the overall slow speed you wont get a konsistant response, sadly.
If you set it to ignore, then does that mean he does nothing when attacked later on.
It would be handy either for ignore to be added to this event (override) or it to be tempory.
In a game where players complain about wonky AI and the developers' response is "well the player has to do all the thinking and not leave it up to the AI", a feature that deliberately overrides player thinking in lieu of wonky AI is beyond irritating.
I usually keep a fast heavy fighter or corvette in stations spread throughout the universe for that reason. Also making sure they have laser towers on board and using Escape and deploy towers option is the best way to protect them besides escorts. If they drop towers the enemy will sometimes target them instead and they will keep shooting them so that if you do get travel drive off, they will be stuck there.
That's exactly backwards. The AI does it's own thinking, including panic and excess enthusiasm if they are lower experience. You should guide them and give advice, but be aware they they will do as they think they have to. Just like humans... 8-}
Commands stack, so they will continue with your command as soon as it is safe (or a bit before!). But getting shot at can override everything you ever taught them, and that is just how it is...
However, experience helps a lot. Best not to send scared teenage pilots into deadly places...
