Has anyone figured out the rotation of station modules ?
I promised to be good - so I will not say what I would like to say. Most of it is not printable anyway...
The X3 station building was bad - X4 is not much better.
What the Gods in Egosoft appear to be trying to achieve is controlling 3D location and orientation of objects by using 2D movement of the mose...bad idea...
This of course is possible - they should have a look at how this is done in any of the CAD systems. Not a rocket science - I have written myself a nice 3D graphical interface for parametric objects.
Snapping - does work only occasionally. The selection of rotation axis - is a pure guess.

So - has anyone figured out how to do it without cursing and with a reasonable rate of success ? The advice on Internet is usually limited to "use the right mouse button"...

What do you mean it's a pure guess? There are great, big circles around the item to rotate them. If you want to move the object, you can either select the axis you want to move along or you can just grab the item and move it.

@dziadek

I'm not sure if I understood half of what you said - so apologize if my answer doesn't match your question. But: with 6.0 there is a very in-your-face tool to rotate the 3 axis once you click a station module or a sequence.

You did update the game already?

In 6.0, when you select (left-click) the module you want to rotate, there will appear 3 colored circles, each corresponding to an axis of rotation. All you have to do is left-click and drag to rotate whatever angle you want. Also, you can hold [Shift] to snap at predetermined angles that you set in the "cog" at the top of the screen.

Oh, maybe the OP has some mods and doesn't want to update to 6!

In that case, it's governed by the axis you are looking from. If you want to twist an object, look at it from above. If you want to flip it, look from the side. It's still pretty easy to use after just a little practice.

I mean, it's pretty damn easy in 6. To be fair, it wasn't that hard or even difficult in 5... I mean, you right click on the axis of what/where you want to rotate... And you move it with left click+drag.

I mean, there is literally no guess work in the 'old' version, nor is there 'occasionally' snapping working. I'm kind of boggled how 'I look straight at object and when I rotate it, it shall spin on its axis that is in line with my view' is in any way hard. Attachment points were even easier, like, look, shiny box with an arrow. And another shiny box with an arrow. You didn't/don't even have to line them up perfectly, as long as you are somewhat near facing...

I mean, i guess the answer is 'Yes. I figured out the rotation of the modules. You right click.'

Yep, in 6.0 station building/rotating is muuuuuuch better

You move the camera so that you look at the module you want to rotate in such a way that you look right at the axis you want to rotate around.
Before 5.0 it needed ~2 minutes getting used to it.
Now in 6.0 it is shown via the circles, it is super obvious.
Snapping almost never caused any issues for me, tbh this one is super obvious from the get-go.

I never promised to be good but I will behave regardless, but for someone implying so many things you sure didn't bother much actually trying around the system, did you?

In the old version, shift click to place somewhere away from the structure, then you can rotate it (and therefore align for snapping) easily.

I think even for those of us who got proficient with the old version, it is easy to understand how people found it frustrating. Egosoft seem to have thought so, too, because the new changes solve the problem nicely.

Seriously OP, update - it is worth it imo.

Thank you all. The point was - how to select the axis of rotation...
And - no, I haven't updated yet to v6, so no "big colored circles"...
Selecting the axis of rotation should be straightforward (I will check the v6 ASAP).

Regarding snapping: yes, I have one object and the 2nd object, the box around the first object is green, the green line joining the anchor points on the two objects shows where to move. So - I move the first object to the anchor point on the 2nd object - it snaps, I release the mouse button - and the objects snap apart. Something does not not compute here...

Maybe some part of that object colide with existing one, or maybe it is partially out of build range (beyond hexagon plot) ?
